i feel fine. pretty much near 100%.. lots of energy. clear head. im great lol

i have a little pain on my port-incision. thats it.

my apetite is crazy now. im still on the mushy-liquid stage, and i get sorta ravenous, but after 3 spoons of whatever... i dont want it anymore. im starting to eat like my little daughter.

i hope you do decide to get the band. its definitely a change for the better.

The surgeon I spoke to strongly urged me to get the Roux en Y instead of the band! I'm waiting for my pre-op appointments and thinking it over (and praying!)

Hi Linda - maybe you should talk to another surgeon before you make up your mind. Personally, I chose the RNY instead of the band. I am from Minnesota and had an incredible surgeon - Howard Lederer.

I will be meeting with another of the surgeons because it turns out my insurance requires it. There are four surgeons in a minimally invasive bariatric practice where I live. They were teaching the class I attended. It will be nice to get input from more than one of them.

Are you a diabetic (or former diabetic?)

linda i just had my lap gastric bypass on 8-20-07. actually today is my first day back to work and i'm feeling pretty good so far. ok here is the scoop i have been a diabetic for 12 yrs now and i was on the insulin pump for 9 yrs. the blood sugars were not getting any better apprx now for 3 yrs no matter what i did. so i went back on the shots of apidra and lantus before my pcp suggested the bypass. my dietician told me that she didnt think that i would every come off of insulin. well i am happy to say that i didnt get off of all the insulin before i left the hospital but i almost did. i was taking 60u of lantus at bedtime and 50u of apidra with meals 3times a day, but now i am on 18u of lantus and 15u of apidra with 2meals a day and this week the sugars are coming down even more so i will have to back off some more. i have lots of energy now and not sleepy all the time now. so i truely believe this was a good decision for me and my family. i also have 3 kids so i am very excited about my new life and my family is very excited as well. my father is like your mother, and now my dad is beside himself about how well things are going and that i dont eat nowhere like i used to. i would go for the bypass instead of the lapband, i think you would get better results. but of course this is something you and your family and doctors need to discuss. but i wish you the best and good luck!!!! regi

Thanks so much for sharing your story! Congratulations on your progress so far!! What an encouragement. I would love to hear more as you go along.
I take 70 ml of Lantus a day (I used to take 200, before I lost some weight last summer....I'm regaining it now) I also take humalog as needed through the day. This usually means taking about three shots a day. I would love to leave all that behind!

How did you feel right after surgery? Was it rough? I'm still trying to make my final decision.

Linda

linda i will tell you that the first 2 days in the hospital was a bit rough. with the pain wise. but i think that was probably the worst. i am doing great now!!! and i think all the worrying before hand was a big issue with me. now with the surgery over i feel great!!! the only problem i have now is trying to eat right, and find foods that i like now. the taste buds are totally different now. i will check in to see how you are doing!!!! regi

Default type 2

Hi Linda,

I have been a type 2 diabetic for the past 12 yrs. I was taking 3 oral meds and 2 types of insulin also meds for high blood pressure. My Dr and surgeon reccomended LAP RYN for me due to being type 2. I had the LAP RYN on 9/12 just 5 days ago. I was discharged the day after surgery and Dr orders was to stop all meds and use one insulin with a sliding scale. I have taken 2 units a couple of times a day and my blood pressure has been perfect (I check it twice a day). I am feeling stronger and stroger each day and so far doing very well.
