Default New pre-op member with new surgery date!

Hi everyone!

Well, I just received my lap RNY surgery date: September 25th!!! What a roller coaster ride to get here, let me tell you. I first heard of the possibility that I could use WLS as a tool to help in my weight-loss battle in May of 2006. I had never even considered it before, even though I was/am so heavy, and was kind of appalled by the very idea. But then I started the process and got steadily more excited as time went on.

After attending the Healthy Ways classes my nutritionist suggested, and getting the official referral for surgery, I finally received a date for the introduction class Kaiser requires: November 18th, 2006. Well, 5 days before the class I was rushed to the hospital for an emergency surgery. I had a huge ovarian cyst and my left ovary removed. This was extremely painful and a loooong recovery. But! I didn't let that force me to miss my class that Saturday. No way! I could barely walk, but I made the 3-hour trip (with the help of my dad/chauffer) and hobbled into the clinic anyway.

Then, after finally recovering from that and starting the pre-op diet, I also started a new job with a 2-and-a-half-hour commute each way every day. This definitely interfered with my eating goals and losing that 10% of my weight that Kaiser requires. But I persevered, weight frustratingly going up-and-down, until June 5, 2007, when I was again rushed to the hospital. This time for an emergency appendectomy. Yes, that's right, my second emergency surgery. Well, I recovered from that a few weeks later and said, "Eff this! I'm getting my gastric bypass no matter what life throws at me!" and finally got serious about losing the last 15 pounds required before they would let me have a surgery date.

So, I finally made it close enough to goal-weight to get scheduled. I'm being very serious about preparing for the major life change...and keeping that 10% off before my pre-op weigh in! I'm looking forward to it all, big time. I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts so far, and look forward to seeing all your stories, too.

Best wishes,

Nyn

Nyn! Good for you!!!

Sorry to hear about the two emergencies!!!

Are you still spending 5 hours per day in the car??? Argh! How do you stand it? I have a 5 MINUTE commute from home! I even go home for lunch!!! Guess that's the difference between Calif and Wisconsin!

Good luck on your WLS journey... keep posting!

Toony

Hi Toony!

Yes, I still commute an average of 5 hours every day I take Amtrak, not my car, and honestly don't mind it most days (I find the train pretty relaxing and I just watch dvds on my laptop or read), except for the trouble it gives me life-style-wise. But even when it just plain SUCKS I do it for my dream job. You're lucky with your commute time! Before I got my dream job at the beginning of this year, I lived literally across the street from my place of work. Boy, I look back on that now and think how spoiled I was!

Take care,
Nyn

Hi Nyn. I could never be a commuter. Just no way I could stand that just to go to work. I, like Toony, live 5 minutes from work & I love it.

I'm sorry to hear about the 2 emergency surgeries but good for you for doing the stuff needed to get the bypass. I'm happy you have a date for the surgery!!

Default Welcome Nyn!!!

Welcome to the Family Nyn!!!

My date is the 26th September - YEAHHHH!!!

Before we know it we'll be on the Losers Bench - make space please

You should ask Lynda to put your name on the September Stapler List - but knowing her she's probably already noticed your date and will post it in anyway when the list goes up on Friday

Hugs
