Hello from New Jersey
Hi my name i Lisa and i've been on here for a couple days reading and catching up on alot of stories about everyones surgeries. I'm looking to make a change in my life because at the rate i'm going and in danger of having some serious health issues.
I was just wondering if anyone is on here from New Jersey or anyone has come to New Jersey to get the surgery and if they recommend any surgeons... I've heard of 2 teams that are really good so far.

thank youuu =)
im still kinda lost on where to start... =/
im looking for other recommendations, but i might go with the team in morristown because i've heard alot about them.
I need to talk to the lady that got us our insurance to see if my insurance company has any requirements before getting the surgery and all that stuff...
its somthing my doctor never wanted to talk to me about so its frustrating because i dont have her to guide me in the right direction...but maybe now that i need to get a referral and im not giving her the option of suggesting the surgery for me maybe she'll help. i hope...if not my mom told me to switch to her doctor because he's really nice and helpful to my family.

Yea - if your primary doctor is useless, just get another. It's your money! Also, if the surgeon you're looking at has a support group, go there a few times. You'll hear specific stories and get a feel for the doctors. I used info from the support group to choose my surgeon. I sat someone down for like an hour afterwards to pick her brain. It really helps.
Good luck!

Where in Jersey are you? I live in NY, close to the state line. I had mine done in Ridgewood, at The Valley Hospital, with Dr. Daniel Davis. He's with a practice that's based out of Columbia Presbyterian in the city. Great guy, great practice.

Goal! I did it!
107 pounds gone since my RNY
121 total pounds gone forever!
I finally have a "normal" BMI
Reached my first goal of 145...and setting a new one of 135.
Reached 135 and have decided to lose another five if I can.
Reached my new goal of 130...and I think I want to stop losing now. "Stop losing now".Wow, I never thought I'd ever say that!

Oh, I'm sorry I gave you the wrong impression. All of your testing can be done right there at Valley. You don't need to go into the city at all. They're affiliated with Columbia, but you don't have to go there.

Great surgeon from NJ
Hi, I just joined here, but I am from New Jersey. I had my surgery on June 27th of this year.
My surgeon is Dr. Robert Brolin and his practice is called NJ Bariatrics. They do have a website. He is located on route 1 in Monmouth Junction which is near Princeton. He has a reputation that is international and cannot be matched and has been doing surgery since the 1980's. His only downside is that he is out of network for all insurances. He will accept insurance payment but you are responsible for the difference although I think he will negotiate his fee depending on your circumsstances.
Anyway, I have only positive things to say about him and his staff.
Here is a good possibility for you. Someone I work with had her surgery done at Hackensack Medical Center and I think they covered the bill in full. They have a huge practice up there, but since Dr. Brolin has done thousands of Gastric Bypass procedures and my husband works in the same hospital that he operates in, we decided that we didn't want anyone else and we would worry about the money end of things later on.
Incidentally, I was like you in that I just started to see small changes in my health, high cholesterol, slightly high blood pressure at times, things like that. I decided not to wait until things got worse and went in for surgery at 227 pounds, alot for my 5' 2" frame. I am down about 30 pounds and my cholesterol has dropped 50 points in two months. I think preventative action is better than doing it after you have problems. Good luck to you.

I'm New!
Hi everyone! I am new here. I had my Roux En Y surgery on June 27th '07- a month later than originally planned due to the sudden onset of pneumonia. I went in at 227 pounds on a 5'2" frame and I am down 30 pounds already! I did develop an infection in the incision that they used the stapler in, so I spent the bulk of my summer nursing that little nuisance but I go back to work next week (I am a teacher) and it is just about healed.
I look forward to talking to some of you online and hearing your stories!
