Default beginning the process

hi, i'm a 46 yr old mother of two that is still carrying the weight i gained with my first pregnancy 20 years ago. i always thought i would lose the weight. diet and exercise worked for awhile, but i always gained it back and then some. i'm 5' 7" and weigh 241 lbs my bmi is a 37.7 i have several weight related medical problems and have passed my phone screening for lap band surgery. my primary physician is all for it and recommends the surgeon i chose. financing is settled and now it's up to me to start the paper work. why i hesitate i'm not sure. the moment is here and i have the support of my friends and family (except mom) i bought all healthy food this week (the total bill was much less) and will try to eat a little better before surgery. my son is 12 and about 25 lbs overweight. i want to start feeding him healthier meals and try to be more active with him.

for me the final straw was visiting a dude ranch i had been to before......after taking one look at me they put me on the biggest draft horse on the ranch in the biggest saddle they had. i can tell you people laughed and snickered. it was humiliating....i played it like it was ok and i liked the horse.....truth is i was crushed......all this happened in front of my son....he is so sweet he even bought me a framed picture of the horse in the gift shop. it didn't matter that i had new clothes and freshly colored hair and a tan.....i was too heavy for an average size horse to carry my weight. it makes me cry to think of it.....

i posted a few times today and haven't had any replys......looking forward to not being alone anymore.....bits-and-bobs

I can totally understand your pain.

I found out what I looked like (for real) last November. I hate and avoid at all cost in having my picture taken and I'm like that to this day.

As much as it pains you, I highly suggest you have your full lenght picture taken right before surgery! I'm 10 months out and although I believe the scales at the doctors office, it's taken almost this long to start mentally accepting the fact that I am getting smaller. I bit the bullet and had pictures taken the day before surgery and each month there after. I think the lst time I had my picture taken willingly was in '91. Oh yeah, try to smile

I'm sorry you haven't received any replies to your posts. I don't think I've seen any but this one.
I've decided to have lap RNY after years of hearing about it and a year or so of serious thought and research. My daughter is all for it. She's a nursing student and has worked with MO patients and patients who were post-op with RNY so she knows quite a bit about it. My co-workers are also very supportive. Due to my weight I have isolated quite a bit so I have no friends outside of work but I am grateful for the support I do have. I honestly have given up on dieting alone. I've been eating horribly lately and need to work to improve it. I'm hoping that my 1st meeting with the surgeon this Thursday will give me some inspiration.
I have zero pictures of me and haven't had any for years. I have asked my daughter to take before pictures of me so that is a really big step for me.
There are several of us "newbies" here so lean on us for support. We are all in the same place.

Default thanks for the replys

i am so excited to get replys. thanks for all your understanding and suggestions about pictures. i'll have some taken for the memory book. i try to look my best everyday. about friends...most of my friends are thru my son's school. they try to get me to socialise with them, but being divorced and so big makes it hard for me. tonight is a gathering party for the fall school auction. i'm going!! i have a beautiful silver bracelet to donate. i'll make myself stay for about an hour before it gets too crowded and i start to feel uncomfortably large then it will be time to leave. so i'm off to scrub and fluff and put on my dressies.....bits-and-bobs

Girl, I totally get what you're feeling. I just had gastric bypass about 3 weeks ago after being almost 300lbs at 5'7". I'm already feeling lighter.

GO FOR IT!!!!

I hope you have fun tonight. I think it's great that you're going to the gathering party and are donating a bracelet.
