Smile Hi All... I am new!

Hey everyone,

I am about 14 days from surgery (gastric bypass) and I just wanted to say hello to all of you.

This site seems really great and I am looking forward to being able to vent and ask questions to all of you seasoned veterans.

Right now I am about to pass out from being nervous, though I also fluctuate between being really excited and then feeling like I am going to throw up... did anyone else have that?

I know this surgery is the right thing to do, and what I want... it is just hard to believe sometimes that it is really happening. I have waited a long time to do this and I am really grateful to be able to even consider what life will be like when I am healthy!!! So cool!

I hope you are all doing well, can't wait to get to know more about all of you!

Default Hi Everybody-I'm new to this forum too

I was really happy to find this forum. I've been post op about 6 years now. I gained a small amt of weight and then all of a sudden I noticed I gained more! I had been neglecting my visits to the weight center after about 3 years due to their busy schedule and my gaining weight.

However..when 5 more pounds came on I said thats it and scheduled appt with the weight center and long story short I have a fistula.

I look forward to reading all the information you have here. I found out all this on friday afternoon and I will call my surgeons office on Monday. My PCP has also sent emails.

Its funny, we get used to eating small portions and filling up fast, somewhere in there for those of us that get these fistulas, you don't notice right away but then it dawns on you that you are eating WAY more then when you first had your surgery. I think mine popped a long time ago frankly, maybe thats why I stopped losing weight so soon who knows.

My original weight was 273 Lowest weight 200 (should have been lower) weight now 225. I am FAT again but at least I know why. I'm 5'2" tall.

Ok sorry I'm blabbing away-anyway HELLO all and I look forward to reading more about this problem. I'm curious about what my surgeon will say, if they can fix it I want it fixed and my pouch closed up again. Yes its another surgery but hey I didn't go through all I went through and not have it be right, so that I have the chance to lose more weight. AND be more careful this time POST surgery

Thank you all

Smile Hey Bear,

Welcome and good luck on the 1st!

I go under the "knife" tomorrow at 1pm, so keep your fingers crossed for me.

I hope that your surgery goes really well and that you are totally successful with your goals.

Cheers.

Good luck, it's not that scary although I have had a lot of surgies (on my knee-5 of them and 2 on my hand and one on my back so I wasn't scared. But I was relieved when I woke up and said is it done? because my doc said if the liver (I had to do the liquid 2 week diet thing pre surgery) wasn't shrunk enough they wouldn't do it. I was so afraid it wouldn't be enough, but it was. Check back in when you can to let us know how it went.

Smile Nervous about my liver...

Thank you for the encouragement...

I am totally nervous about my liver too. But my GP said she thought I was doing well and that I would be all good for surgery...

I think I am mostly scared about the whole liver thing truthfully.

I have been on a liquid diet for two weeks and I haven't lost more than 10 lbs. But according to my Surgeon's assistant it isn't how much you loose that matters pre surgery, so I guess I will just keep my fingers crossed!

And I will def let everyone know what happens tomorrow.

Thank you all for all of your support!

xo

My name is Stacy. I'm 43. Mother of 4 boys (1 in High School, 2 in college, 1 in the Marine Corps). I'm from the Philly Burbs and have done animal rescue for years before my Fibromyalgia brought me to my knees (or was it the Fibro AND the 332 pounds??) ... anyway I stopped working two years ago when the pain became too much and medicated my already very over weight body with junk food. I have thought about surgery for years but knew in my heart that I was not mentally ready .... after two years of being housebound and in the past 6 months finding the miracle drug that gave me a sliver of my life back - I now want more and more and more - and I know losing the weight is something that I have to do to get my life back. I have gone through all the months of testing and finally have my surgery date - July 22.

I joined this forum about two weeks ago or so, and have been checking out all the great links/books/comments that Gwen posted about. Thank you SO much Gwen. I have had so much fun ... and learned so much going through it all. And now I am going to try to figure out how things work around here while I read through the board and hopefully get to know you all.

Stacy
