Hello Everyone,
My name is Wayne. I live in Tacoma and work at the American Lake VA Hospital. I'm new to the Gastric Surgery community and had my "Sleeve" completed on 21 Jan 09 (my new birthday) at Madigan Army Medical Center. I've been hunting the net for a place to hookup with others who are on this new life journey. Surprisingly I'm doing better than I'd expected, however I do have some questions/concerns. I'm interested in local meetings (if there are any), socializing, recipes and insights on what I can expect. Thank you for your interest and I DO want you all to have a successful experience. Hit me up on this site, text or email.

Nikki, thank you so much for your response. Keep us posted on your progress. I go today for my mental health evaluation. I'm a bit nervous too, and excited. But, today is going to be a LONG day.

Default newbie in need of advice

Hi everyone,
I had lap band surgery 2 years ago and now I'm planning to have a baby, not happened yet but i remain hopefull.
I'm asking any pregnant ladies if the tummy portal under the skin when heavily pregnant or at any time protrudes and is noticable at all? through tight clothes as my does show sometimes even now. Vain it may sound but I'm a private person and only my closest know of my surgery.
Please let me know and any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi..new to site and having RnY in early March. I'm wondering how quickly the weight comes off. the reason I'm asking is that I have a wedding in 6 months and I'm trying to figure out what size I'll be by then. I figure I go dow a dress size about every 15 pounds.

My first seminar was long but very informative! I'm glad they make you go to those cuz it really gives you the meat and potatoes of the surgeries! or the NO MEAT AND POTATOES!! hehe....how did your mental health eval go??

Default Mental Health

I had my mental health evaluation on Monday and it went well. Four tests with little dots, then I met with a counselor. I've been treated at this place years ago when I was going through a divorce for depression. So we talked about that and if I was OK and I am now. It was kind of cute he tells me what he's going to send to my surgeon and he says "everything looks good and I see no reason that you can't do this the only down side I see in your profile is that you don't like to exercise. Really, which little dot tells you that :-)"

Anyhow, one hurdle down!

Yep, one hurdle down and how many to go?? I am glad they keep a mental health check on us, though since this process seems as though it will be quite trying at times! The doc said last night that even crazy people can have the surgery, but they need to be treating their craziness and have it under control....haha....I don't think those were the words he used, but that is the translation I got!

Thumbs up Hi there. My name is Laurel

Hi everyone. Thought I'd introduce myself. I'm still considering having by-pass surgery at the Barix hosptial in Ypsialanti MI.
I'm having some concerns about whether I can handle all the things that the surgery can cause.
I'm wondering if the side effects are so common that I can expect to have at least a few of them, or is it possible not to have any at all?
I have my orientation and medical exam coming up in a few weeks but I still can't decide if this is something that I really want to go through.
It was easier for me to quit smoking (over 15 years ago) then to quit eating. I'm definitely an emotional eater and recently lost my husband in April 2008.
I have so many health issues related to my weight and fear my days are numbered unless I do something drastic.
Any ideas that will help me make a decision would be greatly appreciated.
There is a lot of very brave people on this site!

Yes, here is my suggestion.

Don't agonize anymore. You will have a lot of facts and information after your seminar and doctor visit. That is when you can take all the facts and deal with them, making your own personal decision. This is a personal journey, and it has to feel right to do, and it isn't for everyone.

And by the way, you don't quit eating. I can eat anything I want, pretty much. It is other aspects that have changed that cause me to make better choices.

Best of luck!

Keep reading this forum and you will be inspired! All the wonderful stories and successes will help you to feel like you can really do this!! People just like you (and me) from all over the world!! There are many avenues for support as well, with your doctor, local support groups and other forums like this one, so you will always have people to talk to when you need support!

Having said that, of course the decision is very much up to you and your doctor. I am just starting my process and have found most are encouraging and supportive - good luck!!!!!
