Robyn, I'm interested in knowing how YOU are doing. It is good to hear from people who are many years out.

I can understand, too, your wanting to find others near you. I have no one near me, no groups. I live out in the country, and no support groups exist within 2 hours of me. I rely heavily on this forum, for sure, and it's been truly life changing to be here.

Welcome, Robyn!

Thumbs up doing good

I wish I could say I'm doing great, but I'm workin on it!! I've had 3 hernia surgeries due to the GB. Still have pain in my abdomen, but the doctors said LIVE WITH IT!!!! I've been working out at home doing videos that I saw on an infomercial a few years ago. It's called BeachBody. I've recently decided I'm going to join forces with them to help others esp in my situation, to get fit. I know to some it seems like a lost cause, but I want people to see me and realize that it can get better. I've gained some weight back since 2000, but I work hard to lose it again, and hopefully keep it off. Outside influences sometimes get in the way, but I've got to keep a good mind set. I'm glad you have this site for support, I was too ashamed to admit that I even had the surgery, people might figure out I was fat! LOL I'm going to make the best of it and do what I can to help others. Good luck to you !! and thanks for asking.

Default more about me newbie

Hi everybody,
I posted last night but I think I messed up on where I sent it to. So I'll intro my self again. I had my bypass a year ago, have lost 104 so far. I think I should have lost more, I still am having trouble with eating the right food and slowing down and measuring. I still have pain eating even if I do it right.
Help. I'am not sure what to do. I had a lot of problems in the first few months after bypass I had to have a feeding tube,it was a mess. But it was worth it.

Exclamation Start your own Thread

Hi Guys

If you start your own Thread then you'll get a better response - not all the "oldies" look at this thread any longer

I also hope to update this thread in the next week or so - a bit outdated now....

Ok, i'm new here, this is my very first message and i'm not truly sure if i'm doing this correctly. My name is Jessica and I am 24 years old as of Friday October 31st and am considering having the lap-band or gastric bypass. Im 5'6 and am 350 lbs. I have hypothyroidism, borderline diabetic, and i also have PCOS ( polycystic ovarian syndrome). My OB doc also specializes in weight loss and has suggested that i try a prescription diet pill but up until now i have been very weary. I am married to a very loving husband that is in the US Army and is getting deployed Dec 1st for training to go to Iraq, and will not return until april of next year, then in mid april early may he will go to iraq for 9 months. The reason i wasn't considering this until now was because we were trying to have a baby ( insane because of my weight i know ) I was put on clomid and gain 60 lbs in 6 months. This was my 6th and final month. Nov. 7th i go back to my doc's office and I will ask for a prescription for birth control and weight loss pills, and also discuss the option of wls. My doc has mentioned it before but i have shot down the idea because every time i mention it to family or DH they kind of freak out. I work in an ER and i witnessed someone die after having gastric bypass and i'm so afraid that this might happen to me. does anyone have ANY advice? i feel trapped by my weight, and i want to live a happy life.
Jessica

Default Hi

I had my surgery almost 8years ago. I went from 230lbs to 115lbs. MY goal weight was 135lb. In the last year I'v lost the extra 20 lbs. Only because the thought of food turns me off. Have you ever had this problem. It's hard to find anyone that has had the surgery as long ago as I have and maintained their weight. I live in Hudson,NY. That's south of Albany NY.
Hope to hear from you.
