New Member Looking for Thoughts
I am new to the forum and looking for some thoughts. I have been battling my weight since age 6 having some success with weight loss in my early 20's when I describe the that the "stars were in perfect allignment". What I am struggling with right now in looking into WLS is that my BMI is a few pounds shy of 40 and I do not have a technical co-morbidity (despite years of depression treated with counseling and meds). I have one Dr. in the area that has at least accepted my initial application despite my insurance (BCBS) outlining that I must have a BMI 40 or above or 35-40 with a co-morbidity. I also understand that many places want you to show weight loss pre-op which would put me further below the "40" mark. I quess I am wondering if others have had similar stories and if insurance carriers are ever successfully fought in these situations. I am so frustrated after years of trying to approach my weight loss sensibly and undergoing intense therapy with minimal lasting results. I know that I need something else (WLS) and am worried that what feels like my last resort my not be feasible without gaining a lot of weight so I can be over the 40 BMI after proving weight loss. Ironic, huh? Any thoughts are appreciated! -Sara
