6 days post-op
Hi everyone,
I've been viewing this site since April when I deciede to have my surgery. My process went amazingly fast as I had all my tests done and then was scheduled for a June 4 date. It was postponed due to some stomach erosions. Took meds for two months and went in on Monday the 6th of Aug for a lap roux and y.
I am 35 and have three young kids with a very supportive husband. I just wanted mobility and to have energy to run and play with them without pain. I don't ever want to say, "Mommy can't do that" again.
My recovery so far has been very painful. I have 6 incisions of varying length. Lots of pain in my abdomen and have been on vicodin since I was released on Tuesday night. How long does the pain usually last? I've benn up walking but get tired so fast. I know that I will heal over time but am concerned with how bad I feel. Anybody out there have a similar experience?
Looking forward to having people to talk with on this journey!
Cyndi

I am 13 days out and it seems like day 10 was the magic day for me. On day 8 and 9 I was in major pain, but then like magic on day 10 it was pretty much gone. I have to go in to get one more drain removed on Tues which is somewhat uncomfortable, but otherwise I'm finally feeling pretty good.

I wish they would have kept my drain in longer. They took mine out on Tues before I went home. So, you are feeling ok now? I find that I am having lots of incision pain and possibly an infection. R you getting your liquids and protein in?

Congrats. on your surgery. Its hell week and thats pretty typical. It does get much much better. Take things very very slow and listen to your body.
You are in for an amazing ride. We are here for you...why not tell us more about yourself.

Hello, and welcome Cyndi to the best message board for WLS!!!
I think just about everyone goes through hell week during their first month out. Mine was about week 3.
I am concerned, though, about possible infection that you mentioned. If you think your incision may be infected, please see your surgeon. Vitally important to your welfare.
Again, welcome!

Hi Clair,
Thanks for your concern about the infection. It turned out that I did have an infection that grew rapidly. I called and got it and they have me on Cephlex for ten days. Sure is painful. Not a fun way to start out. Thanks again.

Welcome Cyndi!!
Hi there and welcome to the family!
I am also a newbie - only joined in July 2007 and still pre-opp.
I see that you've been reading up on this forum since April but thought I'd share a few of the threads that made an impression on me:

I have also been asked to add the book "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies" to this list, I have not read it myself but plan on ordering it via Amazon today - full review to follow shortly
Have a great time and I look forward to following your journey!
PS: If any of the "oldies" have any other threads to bring to our attention please let me know and I will add it to my list.
