Hello from Texas - New Member
Hi, I have just started to review my options for WLS. I was referred by my Specialist to see a Surgeon to look at my WLS options due to I was recently diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease. Besides DDD, I was also dx w/Borderline Diabetes & I have had Sleep Apnea for 7 years. I have have an appt to see the WLS Surgeon next week & I guess I will find out what the process is from there. I am nervous about the procedure and I'm still on the fence on going through with WLS. I know this is best for me because it's hard for me to even go walking without my back hurting. Does anyone have any advice or ideas on what type of questions I should ask next week?

Welcome!! Ask everything! Write down everything that pops into your head and take the list with ya. That or you can search for those questions here and filter through the answers and figure them out that way as well. Either way, there is tons of info here, lots of helpful people, and a great support system!! Welcome aboard!!

on the fence
Hi
I know what you mean about being on the fence,. I was booked to surgery on Thursday so Wednesday night I was in hospital, my blood sugar was high, borderline for later problems, I spent the whole night alone to sort out if I wanted lap banding or not, seven thirty the next morning after the whole night awake I made up my mind and now I am home after surgery and feeling it is going to work,
good luck as you start down the road to deciding whats best for you, my heart goes out to you as it has to be the hardest part is making a choice, thank goodness you still have time to make one
James

Zen's suggestion to write everythingdown is great. Carry a little notebood with you until then and whenever something occurs to you, take a note. I'm so forgetful sometimes, that this is a helpful system for me.

Hi, thanks for the advice. I should have thought of that on my own but it didn't. I know this is a ways off for me but one thing I keep thinking about is the sagging skin. Did you have this problem and do you know if the Insurance Co. usually pays for this or not?

Welcome!
Yup, make a list- I did, and I think the surgeon liked that I had given it so much thought, and was so prepared.
Next- call your insurance company- NOW! Do it before you see the surgeon. Ask them what they require to cover you for WLS. It differs from company to company, state to state, and plan by plan.
Good luck!

I'm at the same point with my health.
I've got degenerative issues with my hips and spine. The arthritis (knees especially) is already causing me problems. Thankfully, I don't have anything else going on YET but at 52, it's just a question of time.
I found it helpful to write a list of pros and cons for the surgery - kind of a no brainer when you see it in black and white.
My hospital has a Bariatric Pathway. I found that immensely helpful.
