Default Hi!!

Hello, I'm Alison from Alabama. I have been looking into lap band for several months now and I am waiting to hear if I can be considered for a practice in Birmingham. I am very nervous about the process leading up to the surgery but not the actual surgery, I'm afraid if I get my hopes up and then it dosent happen I will be crushed. Anyway I'm just starting this roller coaster so wish me luck!!

I actually tried to get the lapband approved from my insurance (tricare) and it was denied. I am in the process of getting the Gastric bypass now. Good luck.

Good morning and welcome!

Contact your insurance company and ask for a copy of their requirements for the surgery. That will tell you pretty quickly if you are going to meet the requirements. If you have questions when you get them feel free to ask. Someone here has probably experienced anything you might encounter.

Once you determine that you qualify, research surgeons in your area. Don't just take the first one you come across. You want someone who has done a lot of these and has a good post-surgical follow-up process.

Best wishes!!! I'm glad you are here!

Hi Allison!

Glad to see another Alabamian here! - Trina and I are up north of you - in the Shoals area - Florence/Sheffield/Muscle Shoals - we both had surgery by Dr. Facundus in Huntsville AND we're both rapidly (or slowly) approaching onderland! Welcome to the board and keep us posted on your progress!

Default Accepted (kinda)

I just received my acceptance as a patient into the Cahaba Valley Surgical Group in Alabaster, Al. I am attending an information seminar next week! I'm really excited about it. Tomorrow I'm going to the doctor (family doc)to get my "Physician Approved Nutrition Plan" for my insurance, I was hoping to avoid this but the insurance insists. O well 6 months gives me time to plan! I was wondering if anybody else had BCBS of Alabama. I meet all the criteria BMI, 3 years documented morbid obesity, I'm starting to diet tomorrow. Is there anything else I can do to convince the insurance to cover this. I'm also having some really painful knee problems documented and other joint pain. I really dont wanna get my hopes up and then crushed. Any advice would be great! Thank you to all who posted earlier it helps me remember I'm not alone!

Welcome to the board! I suggest you read about Pat's (Baron) struggles to have surgery. He is our poster child for perseverance. It might help ease your fears about getting your hopes up and having them crushed.

Good luck in your journey!
