There are a variety of reasons for open vs. lap. Some docs only do open. And sometimes, high risk surgeries are done open (for my center, I think its BMI > 55 or 60 they do open). And sometimes, there have been other surgeries causing adhesions, which make it necessary to convert to open.

Default Open vs. lap

It is all about the surgeon's choice. My surgeon only does open, gets good results and has no need to change. Of course, he is an expert in lap surgery for other procedures, so it isn't as if he is in the dark ages.

You do what the surgeon you trust wants to do. I believe anyway...

Hey there.....welcome, welcome, welcome to the board! I do wonder what life would have been like if I hadn't spent so much of it obese......blahhhh. I love the way I feel being a "normal" size. BUT, please, please, go to counseling before and after surgery. The addiction and emotions behind obesity are so strong......I worry sometimes particularly about young people for that reason. I just want to suggest you try and prepare emotionally as best you can for the issues and changes you'll go through.....they are many and complex really. Coming to this board is a major good step in that direction. But most of us used some type of counseling too. Best of wishes to you on your journey............stick around, we're kinda fun.

Default Welcome

Hello and glad to have you on the board. It's natural to feel nervous, it's a big change both physically and emotionally. You've come to the right place for information and support. Keep posting and learn all you can. Again, best wishes on your journey.

Wow! I sure wish I had done it when I was 21!! your skin will be so much more resilient. You are going to have a fantastic result! It's not always easy, but being overweight is not exactly a walk in the park either. Overall, I have no regrets whatsoever.

I'm very excited for you!!!

Thank you for being excited for me. Thats very nice of you. I just had a meeting with Kelly the NP at the surgens office and she was like " I hope all the people on the fourm are treating you good." I was happy to say everyone is so nice.

Everyone tells me about my skin and that I should have good results because im so young. Im prayinggggggggg to God this is true. But if not thats okay also.

After todays meeting with everybody I am very excited. They gave me a longgggggggggg lift of todo test but that shouldnt be to bad. It kinda works out good that im a student and I dont work and school is out. Im going to have appointments back to back lol.

Overall I had a pretty good day. I hope everyone elses was the same. For all those that may be going through issues ie: pain, emotional pain etc. I said a little prayer for you!!!!!
