Hello,
I'm new to the group. I've attended the seminar, my first appointment with the surgent, and have scheduled appointments to complete the necessary tests and blood work within the next few weeks. I'm hoping to have the GBS by mid September. I've been reading some of the posts in the forum and picked up the book Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies as it was recommeded by one member. I'm hoping the book will help me understand the life changing event I plan to put my body through. Ever since I met with the surgent last week, I've been on an emotional rollercoaster. I try to think about the positives when I'm feeling down. I was wondering if anyone has some advise on how to get through the times when I'm feeling not so sure about the surgery. Thanks for listening

Hi Dawson,
welcome. Knowledge is power. keep reading...be as informed as you possibly can. Evaluate what your life will be like if you continue on the path you're on right now, as opposed to taking steps to take control of your own health. We're here if you have questions!

Ditto what has already been said. Come here, read and post often! Be sure to check out all the pictures of the folks here and how their lives have changed. Finding a support group in your area will also help motivate you and answer those questions we've all had when we were in your shoes.

Good luck on your journey!

Welcome to the board...I've found that the information and personal accocunts that I've read here have really helped me to feel so much more comfortable with my decision to pursue this surgery (I'm still pre-op).
Best of luck as you jump through the hoops and move closer to your surgery date.
Keep us posted!

Hey Dawson

Welcome to the forum - it's a great place where you'll get lots of good advice and information and most of all support when things are tough.

I can't really offer up much advice on dealing with the head stuff before surgery because to be honest I was pretty bad and decided to have the surgery on the 5th of September and was on the operating table by the 15th. Joy of user pays in the UK I guess!

Good luck with your journey - wherever it takes you. Just know that you are making the absolute right choice for your future.

Hi Dawson!

Welcome!!! Having doubts is natural. If you don't, you probably are not taking it seriously enough. As others pointed out... read everything you can. Keep reading the posts on this site too. There is a massive amount of information here, (plus you can ask questions).

When I had doubts, I considered my past and present weight related problems. I thought about all the things I could not (or would not) do because of my weight. I thought about the future health problems that I knew I was headed for if I did not take this step. And I thought about the amazing possibilities that lay before me when I attained a healthy weight.

Yes, there are risks to any surgery. Something could happen. On the other hand, if I did not take this step, my weight would cause something bad to happen. It was a sure thing.

I'm looking forward to hearing about your progress!!!

Best wishes!
-Mike-
