Yet Another Newbie
I'm jumping in here to introduce myself. Another newbie who is ready for some serious changes in life. I have been overweight as long as I can remember - 7? 8? It's been a battle almost my entire life, and I am ready for changes.... y'all been to amusement parks and not fit on rides? Happened to me a few years ago, thought I was in better shape now. We had relatives in town a couple of weeks ago and went to Knotts Berry Farm. My 13 yr old DD tried to get me to ride the rollercoasters - I told her I wouldn't because I didn't want to be embarrased. She finally got me to get in line for one I figured I would fit on - only to be humiliated after waiting in line for 90 minutes and not being able to do it. After many tears and frustrations that night, my DH and I decided it's time.
He's in the Marine Corps and does not have a weight problem - although being in shape is part of his job, and he works out just about every day. This November will be our 20th anniversary, if we make it. My weight has become a serious issue in our marriage - there are other issues too - but I want him to have the woman he married back again....
Wow, didn't think I would start off with a novel. If you're still reading, thanks!

It takes a lot of courage to start this journey. It takes a lot of support to go through it. And it takes a lot of love, hard work and patience to be successful at it. You seem to be on the right path! Read lots, ask tons of questions, no matter how trivial they seem. Dr. C is the man as far as I'm concerned, so you are in very excellent hands. I wish you much success on your journey and hope to come along for the ride and watch!

Hi KAren,
My husband to is in the Marines, like you I to gained all my weight during my marriage, but unlike you I have only been married for 5 years. In a matter of less than 5 years I put on over 100 lbs. When we met I was only 140lbs, at my highest I was 260. My husband is currently deployed and Im not sending any pics to him, cause hes gonna come home to that woman that he married 5 years ago. Good luck with your journey and battles with Tri-care.-

Hi,
I'm also 40, also in California...and I know what you're going through. I have been overweight since being a little kid...and I have a thin husband. Luckily he is very very supportive and loving. But sometimes I feel like he deserves better than what I have done with myself. I am hoping this surgery will not only help me lose the weight, but give me the energy and the confidence to keep up with him.
Congrats on your decision. Its a big one...but hopefully it will help us open a new and better chapter in our lives.

thanks Dawn, Robin and Simone! Man, I can only hope that things would happen as fast for me as they are for you Simone! I'll just keep praying about it, and taking it all day by day. Dawn, if you ever need support with your DH being gone, let me know - been there, done that. We were in Okinawa for 4 years and he went to Iraq while we were there, moved here last summer and he left a month after we got here. He's now home since January and will retire rather than go again.

Dawn, I reread this this morning - was tired last night! Like you, I put on most of this weight in the early years too. I was 180 when we got married - gained some and then had kids. I was at my all time highest when I had my son almost 17 years ago - 281. LOL, I worked for 3 years to get it off, got to 230 and wound up pregnant again. Since then the lowest I have ever been able to get to is about 245, and it just invaribly comes back again.
Like now - I'm scared because I know I'm borderline as it is, and while I'm waiting for all this I'm starting to work out, etc.... and this past week I have started losing. LOL, so do I quit and wait? Do I continue? Ugh!

HI Karen~
Welcome...I would recommend you stay on the track you're on...it can't hurt to 'get in shape' for the surgery. It will certainly up your odds of having a better outcome.Stick around!
