I'm 1 month into wait for Surgery
Hi Everyone-
Well, I've taken the first steps to taking control of my weight and my life. I'm 1 month into the 6 month waiting period. I'm more excited than ever to make this life change. I have stuggled with my weight for the last 16 years since the birth of my first child, with one brief period of being thin for 2 years about 2 years ago. I basically had to starve myself for a year and workout at the gym for 2 hours everyday,7 days a week to lose 100 lbs. And then after only 2 years of enjoying the fruits of my misguided but succesful weightloss, I got pregnant with my second child. Well anyone who has had a baby and struggled with obesity knows that you just seem to lose total control of your weight after giving birth. No matter what I did, I couldn't lose the weight. I became totally discouraged and of course that led to more weight gain. So now my daughter is 2 years old and I'm weighing in at 262 lbs. I was very hesitant about surgery at first but it became very obvious to me that if I wanted to play an active role in my child's life and activities, I had to do something. So here I am, standing in the tunnell and I can just now see that there may be a point of light down at the end. I'm glad I found a forum where people can understand what I've been through and can offer a broad perspective on the experience of winning the battle against obesity.
Thanks for listening,
Me

Having been really active before will help you a lot on this journey. I work out every day, but not for two hours, usually. And I'm not at all starving. This surgery sort of levels the playing field. It is no miracle cure, believe me, you'll still work hard, but you'll have a really good tool.
Check out the board, search under topics that interest you and you'll see a wide variety of experiences.
Good luck!

HI Welcome.
You're among folks who have shared the same struggles and frustrations. The most important thing to remember is that is not the 'quick fix', 'easy way out' that so many would think. This is a tool, for many of us a gift...like Gina says, it levels the playing field. Your best bet is to be informed, jump through the hoops, and you'll be a loser before you know it! Beautiful pic of you and your daughter!

Hi, Metamorph!
I, too, am just beginning my WLS journey -- I had my first consultation this week and have all of my required tests scheduled. It will probably be 4-6 months before my surgery, too. We can go through this together!
I, too, blame my weight gain on my pregnancy 17 years ago. I contracted preeclampsia (toxemia) and was bedridden for four months. I gained 100 pounds while pregnant, and never took much of it off afterward, and what I did take off didn't say off. (But I did get one terrific son out of the ordeal!)
So, here I am in the boat with you. And I am excited and know this is the right thing to do!
Jump right in to the various forums and topics -- the folks here are SO wonderful, supportive, and FUNNY! I've never heard so many gas jokes in my life.

Thanks for the reply. Believe me I know a battle lies ahead, but at least I know that the war is winnable after the surgery and the support of folks like you and everyone else on the site really goes a long way.

Welcome to the board and welcome to your journey. I, too, am pre-op and let me just tell you that, in my opinion, all of this waiting is for the birds!
I've gotten all of my myriad of tests done only to find out that a couple of weird things came back that have to be checked into further before I can be scheduled for surgery. (Keeping my fingers crossed for early/mid September.)
So, I'm waiting on results, upcoming appts, and insurance approval...and waiting...and waiting...and waiting. I've become obsessed with the calendar and cross each day off as it ends.
Anyway, best of luck getting through your tests and 6 month wait quickly and onto that table!
Who'd have thought anybody would be anxious to have surgery?

Welcome aboard. Glad you are grabing ahold of your life. It is rough but it can be done. I know what you mean about getting it in order for your daughter. I had this surgery before my daughter was even thought of. Now that I am almost 2 years post-op, it has gotten even more serious for me to drop the rest of the weight I want to lose. Everyday is a process and fight to stay on track. It can be done and I am sure you will be pleased with your journey when the time comes. I will be rooting for you. Can't wait to hear about your updates.

Hi, Me!
I'm 2.5 months post op, and I can tell you that you are in for a wonderful ride.
It isn't a battle, it's a journey. The journey is filled with a lot of ups, some downs (discomforts) and a lot of education. We are all food addicts here, we all speak the same language.
With what I know now, and what I do (physically) now, I know that my wonderful pouch is the tool that will guide me to the rest of my THIN life (after 55 years of yo yoing.
The very best to you!
