3 weeks post op and a new to this site
Hello everyone just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I recently had open roux-n-y gastric bypass (3 weeks ago) and am so happy there is a site like this that will halp me with all my question (some I am certain you all have heard a million times) Things have been going ok with me until yesterday. I tried to eat some soft pasta as this is the meal plan my dr gave me. Well needless to say I wont be touching pasta in a long time. That was the most aweful feeling ever. I was just wondering if there are people out there who had had the open bypass and wondering how they did around the 3 week mark, just to see if I am in the right place right now. Well I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying life and I look forward to talking to you all.
Cheers

Welcome, from another Dr Nohr Pt!
Pasta is evil according to all the lit you read, it says to avoid simple white carbs like rice, pasta & bread as they can absorb more moisture once they hit your pouch, swell up and make you dump.
If you haven't already got it I would buy the book "Weight loss surgery for Dummies" a great little bible. Amazon ship them out really quickly.
Read the pouch rules recently reposted by Baronpatrick, this gives a quick low down......and stay away from pasta!!

Greetings and thanks for coming on and joining this site, I am newish here but I am 33 days post op. I tried soft past as my diet plan suggested as well as rice last week and I felt terrible for an entire night. I too was following my Dr.'s suggested diet, but as many will say, pasta and rice are some very difficult substances for our new baby stomaches. I did try my 40 grams of pasta again 5 days later as is suggested on my diet plan and this time I used the blender to grind up a bit, chewed thoughouly as always and ate slowly and this time it was ok. Trial and error following the plan written out by your Dr. and patience and rememberring you are working with something that is going to take time to become used to the food we injest. Good luck and look forward to hearing how you progress goes.

Samantha, thanks for the book information and is strange that some Dr. might suggest pasta and rice, I can kinda understand mine being in Italy and they really push the Mediteranean diet which includes pasta and rice, but since they are so challenging for our new stomaches seems they would suggest it much later. Who knows, but thank you for offering your thoughts and the name of the book.

Oh Paul, I love Italy, that must suck as you have to lay off the pasta
The book is worth getting for sure!

I had an open RNY as well- the only pasta I had at 3 weeks was the bit in my homemade chicken soup- which I ran through the blender!
Protein, protein, protein! Carbs are the Dark Side, the Evil Empire, the anti-...no, I won't say that, but close!
Protein and water! A water bottle should never be further than arms-length away!
Welcome, and good luck!
PS- Dare I guess from your name, trumpet_197, that we have another musician in our midst? Just curious- we could start a TT orchestra! (Getting together for rehearsals could be trouble, though.)
