New member-from Medicine Hat, Alberta
Hi everyone...I'd just like to say hi. Im a married mom of 3 boys, from Medicine Hat. I have just gotten a referal to Dr. Nohr. My appointment for consultation is not until November 2009 I could not believe that I have to wait for 2 1/2 years just to see him! I was just wondering what I should expect when I have my initial consultation, and if I am approved how long should I have to wait for surgery? A little about my situation, my BMI is 48 I am borderline diabetic taking pills to watch that and recently been told my blood preasure is high(although not medicated). I am just curious to know what to expect from Dr. Nohr. I do not want to get my hopes up to only have them smashed. Anyone with any insight please let me know thanks...Angie

First-welcome!
This is going to quite a ride, so fasten your seatbelt!
Second, several forum members are patients of Dr. Nohr. Search the threads- you'll get quite a bit of info on him. I'm sure you'll hear from one of them at some point!
Good luck!

Welcome Angie!
CeeCee has the right advice. Other's from Canada and who have Dr. Nohr will be able to help you out with your specific questions.
I just want to welcome you to the TT (Thinner Times) board. You are doing the right thing by researching and educating yourself. Best Wishes on your journey and it will be worth the wait!

Hi Angie..I just left Medicine Hat this week. I had my GBP with Nohr and Panni with him, about 2 weeks ago. There are a few Nohr patients here. Carrie, Tawna, Samm, Goblin, Erin, and LisaA are a few of them here. I have my story under personal stories :Lisa's Story: Its my experience through the process and could answer a few of your questions.
Remember with Nohr, you can always call for a cancellation in hopes to get in sooner. Its a long wait, but well worth it. The GBP was the best decision I ever made.
Feel free to ask away!

2.5 Years????
Holy Moley! 2.5 years just for the consultation? Is that normal?
Personally, I would not (could not) wait that long. I'm sure that surgeon is fantastic, but there are getting to be more and more surgeons who have a lot of experience with WLS. I am not sure how the system works in Canada, but there has to be someone you can see sooner, isn't there?
If you end up having to wait that long, it will still be worth it!!! I am just really anxious for you!
Best wishes!

2.5 years!! His lists are getting longer and longer! Like Lisa said keep calling his nurse Michelle and bug her for a cancellation, I know it has worked for some people . I am 6 weeks out from Open RNY with Dr Nohr and have had a pretty easy time of it, feel completely normal and getting lighter and healthier daily!!

Mike, here in Canada the wait list for consult are between 3-5 years and there is only a handful of doctors in BC/Alberta, thus the long, long lists. The positive side is you can get a cancellation as many people put their names on more than one list and if your BMI is over 40, then pretty much you are guaranteed the surgery. I have yet to know of anyone in Canada turned down for the surgery (one patient could not see my doctor as her BMI was TOO high, but she went to another GBP surgeon ands hopes to have her surgery soon).
After a consult, you are scheduled about 9-12 months later for surgery.
Long wait, but well worth it.
