ok everyone...Im currently pre-op with a strange question...Im heavily tattooed....and continuing to finish A LOT more area....anyone have experience with how wound healing goes after WLS? Does the lower calorie and nutrient intake change the way anyone heals wounds or colds? My artist and I are preparing to get in some marathon sessions before my surgery date just in case we have to take a significant amount of time off.

I am not sure of the healing being the main concern, instead I would consider postponing the tatooing becasue your skin will change so drastically. If you have Plastic surgery to remove the extra skin after the weight loss than you made end up with strange tatoo graphis the butterfly could revert back to a worm
Thats all I know!

LMAO...funny you should mention that...I've seen weight gain, pregnancy and PS turn beautiful tattoos into strange new creatures....so naturally, that knowledge, combined with my sheer disgust for my abdomen in general...we've avoided the area completely!...Know of anyone else on the site who has had PS near or around their ink?...lol...thanks for your quick response...i love this site!

Wait!!!!! Have your surgery first....then the PS....then go ll out for tats. I have a very large one I got after mmy PS scars healed......it is awesome to cover my scars....let's see if I can post the before and after scar pix......not a problem with healing after you've stabilized at goal.

Marie, they are gourgeous!
I've always wanted a tattoo, said I would get one after I lost 100 lbs. I've been advised now by friends with tattoos to wait not only 'til I reach goal, but also to wait 'til after the "tummy tuck". I've heard too that ink doesn't cover as well over scars, but Marie's look beautiful!

OMG! The first thing I want to tell you is that I have nothing against tats whatsoever, and I don't say this in a mocking way. That being said, when y'all were talking about the pros and cons of inking before and after reminded me--remember the old Mad Magazines? How on the back page they would have a picture, but then you fold it a certain way and it turned into something related but completely different? Yep, that's right where my addled brain took me! What a hoot!

I've been curious about this whole tattoo thing, too. I have a pretty good sized "tramp stamp" and I'm worried that - assuming I will have to have a tummy tuck - it's going to look like some mutated mess!
Thanks, Marie, for posting your tat pics! It's great to see that beautiful cover-ups are possible!

No matter where you are putting these tattoos, that are is ALSO going to change. You'd be amazed where the skin starts sagging after surgery. WAIT until you've reached goal before finishing the art. I think you will regret it if you don't. JMHO

This thread makes me greatful that all of my ink is in places that I don't think could have any possibility of sagging..lol
Marie...your tat is absolutely awesome. If I thought my hubby would let me get away with doing something similar, I would totally go for it...
