Default ONE WEEK to GO...

Hi,
I am "Bob".
no not the Viagra Bob, or "what about Bob", just Bob. Geeeez..........

I have a week to go, having RYD, Lap, By-pass.
Lot's of anxiety, am I doing the right thing, will this work, will I sauced where I failed the 3 previous attempts?

I am a young 50, love to travel, and hope to do a 30 day trek in Africa, hiking, and camping for 75 miles over 30 days.

I heard I should not attempt as "we" cannot absorb water needed for strenuous work outs.
True?

Any way, looking forward to meeting everyone.
Bob

Oh, I am 5'11", at 355 lbs.
I was not put on a liquid diet, wonder why?

Default Welcome!!!

Hi Bob! Glad you could join us. Only you can decide if this is the right thing for you, as for me I would do it again in a heart beat. As far as the liquid diet, I didn't have to either, but my sister went through a BTC and did. I think, but I'm not sure, they go on liquid diets for a couple reasons according to what I've read here. First they want you to get ready for after surgery, and also I've read that they want to shrink the liver. I know there's other resaons as well, but as I didn't have to do it, I'm not up on all of that. As far as you trip and dehydration???? I don't know. I run slightly dehydrated all the time. I simply don't do enough fluids. Am I typical? I don't know. Maybe some others out here can shed a little more light on the subject. Anyway, I just wanted to welcome you to the forum. Please keep us posted as to your progress if you decide to go ahead with the surgery, and best of luck!

Sharon

Welcome to the forum Bob!!! We had to go through a liquid diet two weeks before surgery because our doctors believes it shrinks the liver for a safer surgery. He said we both had fat free livers making his job easier. We had surgery 6 days ago and are doing wonderful. We would do it again in a heart beat. There is a young gentleman on the forum that can tell you more about exercise so look on the excercise part of the forum and PM him. He should be able to shed some light on you water question. We both are getting our fluids in it is a matter of making yourself do it.

Welcome to the forum--and regarding your dehydration levels post-op, I think some people struggle and some people don't. It's true that it will be a long time before you can gulp water in large amounts, but if you're willing to put in some effort, and you can keep the need to do so at the top of your mind, you can get in the habit of drinking liquid continually to stay hydrated.

I do better some days and worse some days, but have found that, with a bottle of Propel that I continue to dilute with water as the level drops, I can get through a couple hour workout with no issues.
