Default WHAT do you all drink??....Post Op?

Hello, I Am getting ready for Gastric Bypass Surgery, I have done all the Pre-Op requirements, And am just waiting on Surgeon Pre-Op visit to set date. My Nutritionist, has me on NOTHING but water to drink, Which I've gotten used to, I was just curious as to what some of the other places require, and what will help my surgery go as Smoothly as possible, I don't mind admitting I'm a little scared, But Anxious to get on with my new life too! Any Input from post ops would be Great!!..THANK YOU!!

Welcome to the family. I drink water, unsweet iced tea, sugar free crystal light and then for my protein drink I do the sugar free carnation instant breakfast with an extra scoop of powdered dry milk.

Very odd that he says only water.........there are some that have difficulty with straight water, but can handle other liquids.

I don't want to suggest going against doctors orders, but water only is pretty hard to deal with lifelong.

SF popisicles worked great too when I just couldn't get all the water I need down. Trust what your surgeon has told you. As time goes on maybe you can adventure with more drinks.

Default Drinks

'Fred' is pretty picky when it comes to liquids. About the only thing I can tolerate on a regular basis is Tropicana Sugar Free Orange Drink. I can usually have 1 glass of something 'different'. That would be 1/2 iced tea 1/2 water, Crystal Light: Pink Grapefuit; Grape; Cherry Limeade; or Fruit Punch flavors only. I can drink coffee with a pack of SF hot chocolate and that's where I put either my protien powder or powdered milk.

No plain water at all! It just does not sit well.

I am a year out and still can't drink straight water.

1. Iced tea sweetened with sweet-n-low and a squirt of Agava Nectar (which is natural, as if eating fruit, and has a lower glycemic index) this way it tastes like normal sweet tea, I do limit this though since it does have the nectar in it. If I'd had too many calories, I just use sweet-n-low.

Or hot or cold flavored teas that I can add Equal or sweet-n-low. Also, SF hot apple cidar.

2. Coffee with sweet-n-low and add tons of powdered milk for protein (Tastes like Starbucks) Or I just buy Starbucks (SF Vanilla Latte) and I add Splenda, but you could use Equal.

3. Koolaid with sweet-n-low. I make it by the half gallon and use either 11 packs or 11 scoops, depending on how I buy the sweet-n-low.

4. Lemonade, made with water, real lemons, and Equal. I make it by the glass and it tastes better to me.

There are tons of ways around the Splenda thing. I don't really understand about no Splenda. I drink it and I have not died yet. lol I think if I were you, I'd be asking why I can't have it. I would want an explanation. If you find out why, I'd be interested to know. Maybe there is something I don't know about, but need to learn. Oh....and WELCOME TO THE FORUM FAMILY!

I'm still pre-op but was just speaking w/ my nutritionist today and she's pretty fruity not only about sugar, obviously, but also about sugar alcohols...which I think is what's in Splenda, etc. She pushes for sugar free stuff to have under 9g of sugar alcohols, which seems like it might limit sugar free options. I had never thought, for a minute, that "sugar free" stuff could be on the no-no list.

Good luck figuring out what will work for you!
