It sounds like forever
but really, it will pass faster than you think and may give you a heads up on the kind of life style changes you need to adopt. I had to lose 10% of my weight before I could even talk to my surgeon. It almost killed me emotionally, but got me to the gym (where I now live) and taught me a lot about who I am without the food.
I think my post-op life had fewer adjustments because I made some changes during those 9 months it took me to lose 28 pounds. Yea - it took that long! So 6 months sounds good to me!!
5 year obesity thing - if you have co-morbidities, they might let you by. How long have you been obese?? Can you doctor write to them and say you're in trouble if they don't do something soon??
And of course, welcome. Your screen name confused me too, but luckily, others figured it out.
Good luck!
