Red face question about skin after weightloss

hello everyone... i have a question....i know alot of the posts here talk about plastic surgery and i have read, heard, and seen pics about how the weight loss is so rapid that it causes loose skin. does that happen to everyone? i havent had my surgery yet and this is something i am really concerned about. i can't afford to spend fifteen thousand dollars on plastic surgery. i look at it this way, i would rather have the loose skin than stay the weight i am now. my weight battle is finally not all about my appearance, it is about my health. it is about me, keeping up with the kids, being able to walk without getting winded, about cleaning house while talking on the phone without sounding like i am doing taebo boot camp training....just wondering about the skin thing...i am keeping my skin hydrated and drinking lots of water now. any advice on other things i should do during my 30 day countdown..............

oh..i see how some people have quotes at the bottom of their posts...how do i do that?....

Kelly, there is a lot that comes into play when it comes to the loose skin issue. You need to look at your starting weight, age, how long you were MO, post-op exercise level....all of those come into play. One thing that I can tell you is that most surgeons recommend you wait at least 12-18 months before having any PS. It will change over time. I am presently 16 months post-op and though the loose skin isn't going away I do notice that it is changing even though I'm not losing much weight. I've recently gone from a size 14 to a 12 and I haven't lost any more pounds.

Now I for one will need PS. Part of it is for emotional reasons but the biggest part is medical. I have back aches, some skin rashes and a knee that is starting to bother me...all of which seems to be connected to a very low hanging pannus. The one good thing though is that my insurance company will cover it.

...to do a signature go to the top of the page where it says Quick Links and then go to Edit Signature. You can put in your quote there.

Thank you so much for the information. Congrats on your success!! You have so much to be proud of. I am 35 years old and have battled with my weight for 12 years. I have done all the diets that I'm sure everyone here has tried from cabbage soup to phentermine.....I have lost weight a couple times in those 12 years only to gain it back and then some. I guess I could try to start walking some and doing some exercise now...it gets short of breath, knees hurt...booohooohooo (I sound like I'm whining!) It looks like I'm in for a tough road ahead.... I think my new motto to myself is going to be something I heard the other day: "STOP WHINING, PUT YOUR BIG GIRL PANITES ON, AND DEAL WITH IT" That made me giggle...Anyway,
my highest weight that I know of (after a while I just quit weighing) was just a few months ago at 270lbs. I am 5'4 1/2"...I always put 5'5" but at the Dr. they put 5'4". I am now probably 255-260lbs. I go Friday for a meeting and to start my pre-op testing and appts.....I keep having to tell myself that this is really happening for me! Thanks Again!

You're welcome, Kelly. It is a tough road. Don't ever let it get into your head that "this is the easy way out." Believe me, it isn't! .....but....it is a way out. For me, the only way. The skin issue is a reality for most people, just to differing degrees. But I can tell you, I would much rather be a healthy sharpea then an unhealthy MO person, any day!
