Wow--huge decision! I am sure you will do what is best for you. Does the Army pay for LapBands? The AF insurance will only pay for gastric bypass. I wish they would do the same things across the board! Good luck with your decision!!

Deb, I can't offer too much advise since I haven't had surgery yet and can't make up my mind which procedure I even want.

BUTTTT, your sense of humor amuses the heck out of me! I giggled to myself when I read about 'Petra'.

Welcome Deb... I went to my educational seminar all about getting the Lap Band. I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. I want to have a child and I thought the band was my best option since it can be adjusted etc. Well, after the seminar my mind was changed. I also have insulin issues and borderline high blood pressure. The band does not change the anatomy of your body, therefore does not change the fact that I may still have insulin issues after the surgery.... On the other hand bypass changes your anatomy it "cures" insulin issues as well as losing weight much faster. The doc at the seminar said the average weight loss with the band is one pound per month. I honestly had to laugh... I mean for a pound a week, why go through all the pain and surgery!!!! I think the main thing for me was when the doc said I could have a healthy baby post surgery. I have not had surgery yet, but I plan to in the near future. Not trying to tell you what to do, just giving you some info I found out. Good Luck with your journey and I will support you!! Take care, Renee

Default Thanks

Thanks for all of the support and advice. It really does help
By the way, the kidney stone is all taken care of for now. It was a royal pain, but if by having that they were able to find the adrenal tumor it was all worth it.
I feel so much better after having stent in place for 6 months. I was actually able to start attending Hap Ki Do classes with my husband a few times a week! All of those mirrors though... ugh....
The Army will cover all of the expenses for the surgery. I've been told that the surgeon that is going to do my procedure is outstanding.
