HELLO!
My name is Nancy. I am 30 yrs old and live in Indiana. I am in the process of having WLS. I had my surgeon consult 4-16-07. I had psych eval done today. Therapist reccommended individual therapy and support groups. Has anyone else had to have individual therapy before WLS?

First of all.. welcome to the forum! you have found the right place for answers. My psych eval was 3 hours long, but no ind sessions. I would try to find out if there is a high percentage of people that go to him that have to go for the sessions.. maybe hes just after the business.. but maybe he feels you would benefit from some additional knowledge. As far as support groups...I did NOT want to go to one, but my surgeon requires 3 months worth prior to submission. I hated the first one.. kind of liked the second one.. and love going now.. I want to start one in my area actually. Keep us posted on your progress!

Hello Nancy,
Welcome to the board, I'm new here myself.
I didn't have a pysch eval at all before my last surgery and wish like heck I had! This is a life changing event and it's etiher be really sure before you do it if they said individual then go for it! I'm in counseling now dealing with issues that I should have dealt with long before i had surgery and maybe some of the complications I've had wouldn't have hit me so hard!
Go for it....Do the counseling!
