Default You are going to do really, really well

One thing I'm beginning to figure out is that this is all about attitude. How you go into surgery determines how you come out of it. You, Ryker, are going to do very, very well. You're asking intelligent questions, you're obviously doing the research. You're young and healthy, so your chances of complication are a bit lower, I would assume.

I also went into surgery healthy--and asked my doc if that was a determination of eventual success. He said while it certainly helped with the surgery and recovery, that the highest predictor of successful weight loss and maintenance was attendance and participation in a support group. I love Thinner Times, but post-op, I moved to an area of the country where there is no support in sight (trying to start one). I strongly suggest you talk to your doctor's office about local support groups, if you haven't already, and start attending before you have the surgery. It's important, vital, in fact.

You're going to do great, girl! Welcome.

Awww thank you Lisa. It was actually a doctor's requirement that I enroll in a support group and attend at least 2 session pre-op and 2 sessions post-op. My first meet up is the 15th. I'm very excited.

Default Awesome!

I'm telling you, girl, you've got it going on. When I was your age, my weight had just climbed from 160 to the 200s, and I was on a 20-year journey into morbid obesity. You are saving yourself a lifetime of heartache, and I am incredibly proud of you. I look forward to watching your journey...

Oh! And make sure you take measurements, and full-length photos every month, both frontal and profile. Seriously. It will let you document your journey later, because you will not believe how much your body will change. I'm excited for you...

And, while you are beautiful now, you are going to be drop-dead, smoking-hot gorgeous in about a year and a half (or sooner). Oh my.
