Welcome
Hi Jason,
Welcome to our little space on the web.
This is one of the most friendly and supportive websites for GBS.
It took me 2 years to make the decision and I'll tell you, it has been one of the best decisions of my life.
For me, the mental stress was the first year of trying to decide if this was best for me. The second year was mainly getting my PCP to refer me to my surgeon.
Then all the tests... I think almost everyone will agree, the most stressful time in the process is when all the tests are done and paper work turned in...Then there is the wait...The wait for insurance approval, the wait for whom ever does the dictation from the Dr office. The wait!!
As for the giving up of the food, well, in my case, the Dr. wanted me on a modified liquid diet. I was on liquid during the day and a small salad at night.
It was difficult, but by then, I was mentally ready for anything!
I had the same feeling as you...Didn't eat many meals, just huge amounts in a sitting.
I won't try talking you into obtaining this tool, just to tell you it is amazing.
Good luck and please stick around awhile!!

Welcome!
It was about 6 months from when I told my PCP that maybe I was interested after all, to waking up in the recovery room. I had been flirting with the idea for 2 yrs before that. (My ins was no trouble, I already had documented co-morbidities and weight-loss efforts.)
My surgery was 2/12...oh, and women have a Superwoman gene. After all, who else is going to clean the bathroom?

I agree...my hubby had it easy during his recovery...fresh linens, homemade broth, assistance with the binder, taxing to appointments......
on the flip side, I was making him dinner my first day home...that was actually pretty funny to watch!

When I decided to have GBS I called a Docs. office in Dec. they made an app. for me Jan. 15th. That was their first opening. No questions except my weight and how tall are you. #317 and 5'9". I had some troubles and whined a lot but would do it again. I did the two weeks low carb Slim-Fast 5 cans a day that is all. It was tough for a few days but got better. I have the best woman in the world, she took great care of me, supported my decision and was a great cheerleader. For health - YES For looks - YES For energy - YES

I assumed that was a joke because he doesn't have a doc set yet?! But hey Jen.....let me crack you up.....this is honest to God truthful. You can probably even key him in online. My Gyn is Dr. Fish.....no lie! Barry Fish.....in Fairlawn Ohio if you think I am joking you.

Awwww, so glad you feel welcomed! That is why I don;t even attend my Ohio support and go to their forums.....I found that this board WAY surpassed any. I even flew to CA and met a bunch of folks.
