all you post-oppers
How much did you lose in the first month. Was it harder than you expected it to be, how long were you off work? How many nights did you stay in the hospital. Have any of you suffered from addiction transfer?
Just me, being curious in Iowa.

Welcome and congratulations on your upcomming date.
I had rny lap, I was in for 2 nights, (I wanted out), and I lost 20 pounds the first month. No problems with addiction transfer. I saw a therapist for 6 months or so to make sure I was a perfect canidate for this. It was a bit harder than I thought. I wanted to eat salads and things and for the first month you can only do soft foods. Then when I had the green light to try new foods, I went through a stage that every day things would not stay down, kinda like a trial and error.
Six months out, I can say this was the BEST thing I have done for myself by far! I am so happy, I eat my healthy food, drink my water, take my vitamins, and I just joined a gym! I am a slow looser, I have not lost one pound this month, no one. But I am doing all I should so I just need to stick with it.

My first month I lost 29.4 pounds or 20.4% of my excess body weight
The second week was harder than expected. The first week I felt so crapy the food thing didn't bother me. I had tons of support. The second week I was more by myself and on clear liquids. That was a hards week. Once I could put anything that resembeled normal food into me, it got so much easier.
I was in the hospital 2 nights
Addiction transfer. I do drink more frequently (a drink 2 x/week now rather than 1 every other month). That is partially because I go out more socially with hubby etc. I shop more, but not an addicition, a necessity. Sexually...hmmm wouldn't call it an addicition, but an interest.

I lost 21 pounds the first month after losing the 10% required by my surgeon. I was up and walking the night of my surgery and stayed in the hospital 3 days. I'm a teacher, so I didn't have to go back to work for weeks, but for a desk job, I could have done it after three weeks. It is more work eating lunch at work than actually working at first, though I know a lot of folks are tired for a while as they adjust to the low calorie intake. I had no trouble. Actually, I took naps every day for two weeks, but then I was alright.
I had open by the way, and the whole experience was MUCH easier than anyone described to me. I was in the gym walking on the tread-mill on post op day 5 - slow walking... I started driving post-op day 7, though only VERY short trips.
I do work out a lot, but I don't think it is an addiction. Something I'm more scared to stop than unable to stop.
