Talking New here.......

My name is Jamie and I live in a rural area south of Kansas City. I have 6 kids ranging in age from 2-18 and have been married 18 yrs.
I'm in the beginning process of trying to get approval. I had an appt with my surgeon last week and have been to the manditory weight managment center I have to go to for 3 months to satsify my ins. co. I have my nocturnal oximetry and my EGD next week. The week after I go to the pre op seminar.
I'm still trying to decide between lap band and roux en y and will attend a seminar explaining them both at the end of the month.
The dr. says I'm an excellent candidate and about as low risk as I could be.
I'm praying for approval but I'm worried since I'm not considered high risk that I will be rejected. My husband is very supportive and keeps reminding me that I just have to jump thru the loopholes and it will be approved. We'll see!!
Anyway, I'm so excited. I'm so ready to be able to tie my shoes and play with my kids again.
Can't wait to get to know you all.

Jamie

Welcome aboard Jamie. Glad you are attending a seminar to get a feel for which surger will be best for you. Even though they both aide in helping you lose weight, they are 2 very different procedures. Best of luck to you on your journey. Can't wait to hear your updates in your journey.

Default Welcome Jamie

If you meet the 40 or above bmi and get everything your insurance request...you should have no problems..
Good luck with your research...I spoke to alot of people before I made my decision and I decided the lap-band wasn't worth it to me...
My doctor said you don't lose as much and you can find ways to "beat it." Also you have a port that stays in just under the skin and you continue to go for fills....
I decided for me if I could find a way to cheat I would...LOL so I am going for the full gastric by-pass...

Best wishes to you on the extemely emotional and exciting journey.

Hi jamie! Welcome to the fam! I too did a lot of research on both procedures. My doctor made the final decision easy, because my bmi is too high for him to even consider it. He only likes to see it done on people close to the 35 bmi range. I am at 51... well I used to be anyway.. (hmm.. I need to recheck THAT!0..
Anyway.. I also have an awesome chart comparing the two surgeries. I can send it to you if you'd like. Just send me a private message with your email addy...

Its a very personal choice.. and you are wise to research ALL of our options!

Default Welcome!

Welcome! Sounds like you're doing your homework! Yup, the BMI is what a lot of ins. companies look at. Mine was up around 48 or 49 when I started, almost high enough for my own zip code! Keep us posted on what you decide- there's a lot of good info here too! Good luck!
