Hello Everyone, I Just started Checking into the WLS. I had my first counseltation, and Go for blood work soon. I am a Little scared, I know it will be life changing. I am a Barrel Racer, have been most my life, and after a total hysterectomy a little over 10 years ago, I have Ballooned up to as high as 269 lbs, at current I am 255....My Poor Horse . I have Yo Yo Dieted with WW Phen Phen, Slim Fast, OTC stuff, Atkins...UGH!! My Goal weight would be in the 150 range, I have to wait till fall for surgery, as I just quit smoking, and My surgeon wants me smoke free for 6 months before surgery?? So I have only been 5 Days without smokes, So if I can quit that, Why can't I lose the Weight??..I'm Going to be Freqenting this board, looks like a Great support group, Lord knows I'll need it as the day grows closer, and post surgery, How long post Op were most before Regular Activity? I.E Riding My Horses? Thank You Anyone For your Ear..Deb

Welcome Deb... My surgeon requires the 6 months smoke free thing too. I lucked out and quit in Nov. even before I knew about that rule! It takes a few weeks, but you will feel so much better after the no smokes! Are you doing it taking anything? Or cold turkey. I highly recommend Chantix (it is a nicotine receptor blocker).. no withdrawals, or cravings. It was awesome.
Best of luck to you.. there is a wealth of information on this board. Look around.. do a "search" for specific items and you will be so well educated by the time you go for your surgery... you could do it yourself! (I know at this point I think I could do mine myself.. and if it doesnt happen in the next couple months.. I may just have to try LOL)

Welcome Deb,
Congrats And Gl On The Quit Smoking Thing. I Only Had To Be Smoke Free For At Least 3 Weeks After Surgery. I Went On The Patch , Did Woners For Me , I Had No Physical Cravings , Just Mental Ones. I Started With The 21 Mg Patch For 2 Weeks Then 14 Mg For A Week And A Couple Days. The Morning I Went Into The Hospital I Didnt Have A Patch. Whole Time In Hospital Did Fine Went Home Did Fine No Cravings . I Actually Could Not Stand The Smell Of Cig Smoke . Even Today (more Than 6 Months Later) I Cant Stand The Smell. Best Thing I Ever Quit. And The Money I Have Saved From Not Smoking And Not Eating Much Is Just So Great. Ok Im Done Rambling !!!! Gl To You.

Welcome!
This is a great place for research! Barrel racing? Wow, I'm impressed! Ummm, I had open RNY, and I have a desk job. I was out of work for 5 weeks. I was told not to lift over 20 lbs for at least 3 to 6 months. Barrel racing has got to be quite a work-out! Just jot this down on your things-to-ask-the-surgeon list!
