Default Wife & I on our way!

My wife Dorene and I(Jim) are on our way. I have finished all the Doctors prescribed hoops and Dorene has one more which is really scaring her, the treadmill with the die test for her heart. Has anybody had this test and is there anything to worry about?
Dorene wants us to have the surgery on the same day and our Doctor says he thinks that is great. We have been checking out this site for quit a while and have found it to be very supportive.
I asked our support group at our local hospital what a panni is and they thought I had lost my mind. So here is another question what is a panni?

Yes, I had that test prior to my surgery. It is really no big deal. No pain at all. There is a lot of rushing from treadmill to table so they can take the pictures while your heart-rate is still high and that can be a bit disconcerting. It is very important that your wife stay on the treadmill as long as she can in order to get a good test.

She will do just fine.

Default Hey welcome

I think that is so cool that you guys are going to have it the same day. I too had to have the nuclear stress test....The worst part is the hurry up and wait...You can't eat or drink after midnight and they tell you which of your med's you can and cannot take if she is on any...
When you get there I had to drink to big glasses of water and wait 45 minutes. Somewhere in there I got an IV for the dye...then I walked on treadmill and I think I went 13 minutes (which they said was awesome for someone with my heart history.
Then you have to wait another 45 minutes after you get thur with that and they put you in a machine and take pictures of your heart.
Because of my heart attack history my doc didn't release me after mine because he didn't like something on my pictures....it cost me a week. I had wanted to have my surgery on April 10 and had to wait till april 17th. He ordered another test for me...I can't remember what is was called but I think it checked calcium build up in my heart.

If your wife has no heart issues she should do alright with the test. I arrived at 7:30am and left at 12:30...some of that was due to people in front of me...they had to have there pictures taken over.

So I am sorry this was so long...In a nut shell waiting is worse part!
Best wishes and keep us posted!

Default congrats....

congrats on your surgery. the dye test did not bother me too much. i thought i would die on the treadmill but it is very important that she stay on as long as possible. she just has to keep telling herself i think i can i think i can. but there were no complications on my part. are you going to have someone home to take care of you both? my husband took a week off of work to baby me. and i really enjoyed it. you are very sore after. good luck to you both.

Hate to jump the thread - but I'd "maybe" rethink doing it on the same day. I really pushed having my husbands and mine on the same day, but my surgeon kinda pushed not to. So, we ended up having our surgeries a week apart. Mine was lap - and first. Mike's was the next Monday and open. I ended up having all sorts of complications, a total of 16 days in the hosptial - two surgeries the second one open, two more scopes, etc. - and my poor hubby had to make trips back and forth to the hospital with 20 odd staples. I was down for nine weeks, Mike was up and running in days. I'm very glad we did them close together - but if one of you does, God forbid, have a problem, it can be pretty hard on the healthy one to care for the other. Thankfully, we're both healthy and doing great now!! Good luck to both of you!!

Awesome... same day surgery.. How COOL! The treadmill is either as long as she can, or until she hits target heart rate whichever is first. I never hit target, but I did hit 80% which was considered a "good" test. My target was 185 beats per minute for the test.. I only stopped the test, cuz I felt like I was falling off... it was inclined to much for me to feel safe. I never even broke a sweat. DIdnt have to do the dye tho. Best of luck to you both!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on being so close to your life changing surgery days. I too would carefully weigh out the pros and cons of having same day surgery. I guess I wouldn't mind being babied a little bit.

Either way very excited for you both!!!!!
