Default I have no idea how these sites work

My best friend is having gastric bypass surgery the day after tomorrow. I really would appreciate advise on what I can do from people who have been through it. Thanks

there is a search button on top you can use to search topics and will find threads to read

also another good thing to read are personal stories, click on that link and there are many peoples stories to read

you can look through all the different topics, general discussions, post op, preop and there are lots of threads, just read and post if you have something to say or questions to ask

this is a great bunch of people with lots of experiences and support, welcome to the board and i hope your friend has a quick recovery.

I know a lot of people say chap stick but I could really have used some eye drops, it was sooo dry in my room that I was talking to Beth with closed eyes because they burned so bad.

Default Thanks

Thank you so much. I'm so proud of her and I want to do everything I can to make it even just a little bit easier. Keep in touch. I've never spoken to other people on the internet before, so thanks also for the instructions.

Ok. Most of you have had the operation. So far I've got flavored chapsticks, hand lotion and eyedrops. Is there anything else? I'm sure they will all be appreciated. What else did you need? Please, don't be shy. I can't do it if I don't know what to do. You all are beautiful. you know that, don't you? The fact that you give a flying f--- means that you're not an ****. I will apreciate the advice of those of you who've been there.
Thanks.

Besides the top list all I needed was love and support from family and friends. The first few weeks are REALLY hard, so it's nice to have people around that will help and encourage you when you need it. I hope all goes well with your friend. Oh yeah have her bring something easy to slip on when she goes home. Something loose as she prob won't want anything tight around her belly because it will be sore.

She'll probably appreciate a pillow to put across her tummy on the way home (under the seatbelt). You feel every bump in the road! My hospital didn't have sugar-free jello or popsicles but they did have a patient fridge so I had my hubby bring me both for when I was cleared for clear liquids.

Best of luck to your friend and God bless you for being such a good friend!

Sugar-free Popsicles rule! If you have access to her home fridge, have a box waiting for her- my fiance did, bless him. They are a very good way to get in much-needed fluid after surgery. Other than that, all I needed was to give myself permission to wear sweats 24/7 and not bother w/makeup or high maintenance hair! Good luck to your friend! Oh, believe it or not, one of my friends gave me a coloring book and crayons. With painkillers and all, you have no attention span for even a magazine article, but coloring was very soothing and mindless. Trust me- I'm 48!
