Looking for a buddy...
Hello everyone!
I have been lurking for a couple of months now, but don't get much online leisure time between a demanding job and 16-month-old twins.
I had my RNY on December 6, 2006. Everyone else seems to notice the progress before I do. It hits me when all of the sudden I can slide off a pair of pants without unbuttoning them. I am down 3 dress sizes so far.
I have been overweight my entire life. My pediatrician used to make my mom cry because he would tell her I was fat and I graduated high school at 219 pounds. My mom used to put me on diets as a child and I was the only elementary school kid in my town who had to measure my peanut butter and jelly.
I have considered having this surgery for many years (since Al Roker did it), but always thought it was for rich, famous people. After reaching 341 pounds just before I delivered triplets on September 28, 2005, I knew I had to do something. When my OB/GYN recommended it, I jumped at the opportunity and asked her to refer me. Insurance covered everything and I was out of the hospital in less than 48 hours.
I would say that my biggest obstacle has been the psychological challenges post-op. For instance, dealing with people saying things about the weight loss and going on vacation without being able to eat the junk food that always accompanied vacations in the past. In fact, I find it frustrating that places like McDonalds don't offer many options for people trying to eat healthy. I can't digest the lettuce, so salads are out. That leaves me eating a grilled chicken breast...over...and over... and over. I just hope I don't burn out.
I am having a lot of trouble taking my vitamins. I actually had to have the dilation done a couple of weeks ago due to a sharp pain (like I was swallowing a brick) whenever I tried to swallow a pill or anything hard like red meats. The procedure has helped a lot, but I still find myself still gravitating towards anything soft and easy to digest.
More than anything I think I need a buddy to help me through this first year. Is there anyone out there who has a similar surgery date and situation? I would love it if we could check up on each other.
Thanks for listening--I have found this board to be wonderfully motivating!

Welcome to the posting side of the boards. My situtation is somewhat the same. I had surgery on 12/12/06. I do not have triplets though but wow. That is really exciting. I have three children 2 toddlers and a teenager.
Looks like your weight loss is really coming along that is wonderful.
Weight loss for me is very slow and frustrating. I don't see the change in body either but I do notice it as well when shirts fit different or pants are slightly baggier.
McDonalds is hard for me as well. I really want to have a cheeseburger when I go there. I have tried to eat the patty on its own. I can get through about half. I have had the grilled chicken and usually it is too dry for me and I feel like it gets stuck.
You can definetly PM me at any time. I would love to have someone to talk with as well.

Hi and welcome to the board. Congrats on your weight loss so far. You're doing well. I'm pre-op so I'm not so sure how much help I can be, but just wanted to introduce myself. Where in NY are you? I live about 25 miles out of NYC...are you close?
What kind of post op support does your doc offer? Is there a support group that you go to? Is there a nutritionist available to you? Maybe that would help you some.
I think that you hit the nail right on the head when you said that the biggest obstacles are psychological. (While I'm pre-op for this surgery, I had WLS many years ago...so I can understand). Have you considered meeting with a therapist to help you with some of the stuff you need to sort out? Just my two cants. Good luck to you...

Goal! I did it!

125 total pounds gone forever!
Reached my new goal of 130...and I think I want to stop losing now. "Stop losing now".Wow, I never thought I'd ever say that!
Looks like Donna is right though. My body doesn't seem to be done...

Thanks Girls!
What a warm welcome! I really appreciate you guys pposting on my thread to welcome me to the board. A couple of you asked where I live in NY. No, not near the city--more like near Canada. When we say upstate, we mean Albany is several hours south of us. LOL I would totally love to meet girls who have had this done! That would be fantastic!
One thing I have found which is really neat about this board is everytime I log back in I have to change my signature because my current weight has changed. Now how often can you say that, right?
More than anything I keep wondering when my luck is going to run out. Do you guys feel that way too? Like I won the lottery or something and one of these days I am going to wake up back at 341.
Just to clarify, I did deliver triplets, but one of my daughters didn't survive, so we had to have a funeral for her as soon as I brought the other two home. I have a boy and a girl but I don't like calling them twins because I did carry 3 of them for 8 months.
I would love to get to know you all more....please tell me more about you!

Lyndsey...I consider myself upstate... when you say Albany is south ofyou... are you in Watertown? Im guessing you are either near WT or Ogdensburg by your Canada reference. I am near Syracuse... Sorry to hear about your daughter... but you are blessed with the other 2 I am sure. It has to be awesome to lose enough to keep having to change your sig.. gratz on that!
