weight loss slow and starting to crave sweets
Hi, I had my surgery on 12/12/06. I initially lost weight very fast but now have slowed way down. I am down about 38lbs. but it seems like some days I can eat quite a bit of food. I have even eaten a few sugary items lately. I had hoped when I had the surgery I would not even be able to eat high sugar foods without getting sick. Unfortunitly the only things I have thrown up are foods that are good for me;chicken and beef. Any suggestions on my panic about food and my slow weight loss?

How about
Try drinking water when you start to get that " hungry" feeling . Now is the time to use your "tool" . I haven't tried any " sugary" type food knowing that was my downfall to begin with. My biggest problem is carbs, my latest "obsticle" is triskets crackers ( low fat) I try to keep a glass of water or s/f tea next to me so I am constantly sipping. How about some s/f jello or pudding ? Maybe some cheese , low fat of course. I also like Light and Fit Yogurt. They boast 60 calories. Just some suggestions.

Two words: Sugarfree Fudgesicles!.. Everyone raves about the popsicles, and they are good, but man oh man the fudgesicles are my sweet tooths happy food! And dont give in to the sugar! You dont want to sabotage yourself! after committing enough to go through surgery, your body would not like it if you went through all that and still ate a lot of sugar, just "because you can"! And protein.. if you are throwing up chicken & beef, gonna have to find something else.. fish? shrimp? I am pre-op, and its easy for me to say .. but I know you dont WANT to eat sugarry stuff (cuz you posted about it ) Stick around.. this is a great place for info.. and the people here rock!

I am a year out and still have a problem with chicken breast. I have to cook my chicken in ff cream of mushroom soup slowly for hours for it to be tender enough to tollerate. You are only 2 months out....be patient with meat and chicken. I lived on fish early on.
In terms of the sweets, do sf ff puddings, or choc. peanutbutter south beach meal replacement bars. Avoid sugar like the plague for as long as you can.

Some foods will be hit and miss for quite a while - beef, chicken...just take it very slow and if it doesn't agree with you, don't eat it for a while, then come back to it. Moisture and mixing it with something else was key for me. For example I had turkey with gravy and a little potato - if I didn't have the potato, it wouldn't stay down.
As far as sweets go, really try to avoid them as much as possible - your tastes will change, but it takes time. If you really need something sweet, go for SF jello with whipped topping, popsicles, fudgesicles, fruit, or even a SF candy if you have to.

Hi, I am new to this website, but boy was I happy to read your message!! I had my surgery on 11/17/06 and to this date have lost 51 pounds. I have been stressing about not losing enough in this amount of time. I can eat many things, but lately have been stuck on cracker and cheese or cracker and peanut butter. I have had alot of trouble with fish. I used to love it and now I cant even swallow it!!! I can eat ground turkey or regular turkey slices and I have eaten a bit of moistened beef. The beef is more difficult. All I know is I have to eat slowly or else I have to deal with the wrath of the pouch!!! Its not pretty, and really painful!! I have found that sf pudding and fudgesicle and the icecream called CarbSmart or something like that is pretty tollerable. Of course I don't eat the whole carton like I would have before. I know that slowing down and eating less is the key for me. I hope to find out throught this forum if my weight loss is normal or if I am doing something wrong. My sister had this surgery 3 and a half years ago, and she just had her final surgery to take away the excess skin today. She has had 4 surgeries to remove a total of about 55 olbs of extra skin. She swears that she lost the weight much faster than I did. I had mmore to lose than she did.
Any comments will be appreciated and good luck to you. Michelle
