Welcome.
The coffee thing is really no big deal like everyone said. I went from drinking at least 2 cups a day with in days of surgery to not drinking any. While in the hospital you won't even think about it. You have enough meds in your system to counteract any caffeine withdrawl. When you are out of the hospital you are trying to figure so much out you will not think about it. I know I didn't miss the coffee even when my husband brought his morning cup of coffee into my hospital room. At some point you may or may not be able to tolerate it, very individual. I do miss the experience of sitting down and drinking that first cup of coffee but I have replaced it with tea or no sugar added hot chocolate. You will find out what works for you.
The weight gain is a possiblity for everyone. I think and this is just my opinion. That if you work really hard in the beginning to follow the rules and listen to your pouch it becomes habit. When it is a habit to eat in a healthy way and to exercise gaining the weight back becomes more difficult. For quite a few months your pouch will just not allow certain foods and will not allow you to consume a lot of foods. For me post op almost 3 months it just is a habit to use a small plate, use a small bowl and eat only a small amount. Don't get me wrong it is a struggle and daily you are reminded. I think that people that gain back tend to have not followed the rules and tend to always feel like they are missing out rather than seeing what they have gained. There are still days I am worried this won't work and days that I know it will. It is like space mountain, a rollercoaster that you just don't know where it will take you next.
Good luck.
