Thumbs up Hello, I am Dave and just getting started....

I am 51 and morbidly obese. I have been fighting with health problems since the fall of 2002. I have had seeral surgeries leading up to the removal of my colon and now I have an permanate ileostomy. I tried to have my rectal stump removed May of 06 and they could not complete the procedure closed me up and sent me home. I was given three reasons for the surgery not being possible. 1. Bleeding got out of control 2. Rectal cavity was to small. 3. I had to much fat tissue in they way. I cannot do much about the first two but I am sure as heck going to fix the fat issue. I have been told that the remaining rectal tissue is precancerous and it needs to come out.

I started my focus on wieght lose after I recovered from Mays surgery I had many complications and finally felt Ok the first of October. I called our local bariatric center and entered there program. I started @ 387 I am know 319. My goal is to be 175.....by this time next year.

I am married to a saint of a woman. I have two son's. I have three grandchildren all came this fall. Twin boys in Texas and a girl in buffalo.
My hobbies are woodworking scuba and card playing. I was a High School Principal prior to all of these health issues. Now I spend full time on getting better and enjoying each day.

I hope this is OK fro an introduction if you need more just ask. I am an open book.

Brilliant screen name, by the way.

Welcome to the forum and I hope all goes well. I've been to Rochester and one of the California girls is about to move to Buffalo - we out number Callery's patients soon!

Good luck on your journey - ask any and all questions.

Thumbs up

Than You for the the kind words Gina and Jen.

I will be having my surgery at Hyland Hospital by DR William O'Malley.

I feel very good about the surgeon. I have had some experience with major surgery. I do understand the challenges of complications and the issues of recovery.
The concerns I have are about long range effects? The smaller stomach or pouch, and the malabsorbtion given that I have no large intestine now. I am sure that they would not even suggest this surgery if it was a negative impact on my quality of life.

Thank you again
Dave

I would hope that they wouldnt do the surgery if the risk of malabsorbtion was more than the normal malabsorbtion.. or if it were going to be putting you in danger..
