Talking Hi from England

Hi Everyone

I'm Jeanette, and I live in Glastonbury in England.

I've been lurking here for a week or so, and have now decided to jump in, as you all seem so supportive.

I am pre-op and the funding for the operation has not been comfirmed yet, but my consultant says he thinks I have a very good chance of getting the go ahead, as I'm young, tick all the right boxes and have the right attitude. I have an appointment with the surgeon and dietition on 31st Jan, and once that meeting is over, they will petition my local health authority for the money to procede.

I'm undecided yet as whether to have the lap band or the Gastric bypass. Hopefully this forum will give me opinions, so I can make an informed decision.

I'm 35 at the moment, and have been overweight since I was 7 years old. I have got to the point now where I see this operation as my only option. I'm so desperate to proceed!

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all!

Welcome to the boards Jeanette, I'm glad you decided to post. I would say the majority of the people on this site have had gastric bypass but there is a wealth of information about both.

Hello Jeanette!! Welcome to the board! When I began this journey I was interested in the lapband myself. After doing a lot of research I decided that I would go with the RNY Bybass. My reasons for doing so were that I had a great deal of weight that I wanted to lose and from what I could find there seemed to be a longer success rate with the RNY (this is just what I was able to find, not saying it is fact)

Good luck to you!!

Do I really want to be normal?? Having some body issues. Don't want to be too thin.

Hi Jeanette

Welcome! This is fantastic place to get some knowledge and to make really good friends.

It's great to see someone else from the UK on here!

I originally looked into the band but after many discussions and lots of research decided to go with the bypass as my weight was so high. It definitely appears to have a much better long term success rate than the band.

For me it also came down to the fact that you can still eat sweet things with the band and I know I'm bad with them and wouldn't be able to resist long term.

It has been a tough journey but absolutely worth it!

Good luck with whatever you decide and if you need any advice at all just let me know.

Red face Hello Everyone!

This is my first time posting here. I am interested in having the gastric bypass, but I am very fearful of what can happen to me. I see that everyone has very good results from having the bypass. I have not been to a consultation with a surgion yet. Right now I'm sitting waiting for them to approve my insurance. I want to loose this weight before I get too old to loose it. I'm 28 years old and I weigh 312. Pray that things will go through for me.

Default Welcome all!

I didn't so much decide for RNY as I decided against the lap band. I did all my homework, and decided the lap band would give me too much wiggle room; you know, give me an inch and I'll take a mile?

You'll find tons of info here to help you make informed, thoughtful decisions.

Goodluck!
