Smile New to Thinner Times Forums

Hi Everyone,

This is my second post today, once in Post OP - Gastric Bypass.
I'd like to introduce myself in this forum as well.

My name is Gina and I'm 29 years old. A single parent of my 5 year old son. I've been overweight most of my life, although holding it well and most folks thinking I'm not as heavy or deserving of the surgery I chose to have. I've already experienced extreme HBP, Sleep Apnea, and Depression. The HBP was the worst which made me decide that I'm far too young to get progressively worse.

I've watched this site all weekend in desperate aching need to find people experiencing the same issues rather then dealing with folks and family that have never really been there or understand my issues. I find this to be a difficult journey and hope to seek light at the end of tunnel.

I look forward to engaging with you all in this journey!

Hello Gina,

I'm John 24 and 6 months out on my surgery. I agree with you're post 100%. Its not easy finding someone who can relate to what you are going through especially without judgements. May we both find what we are looking for here.

Welcome to the nuthouse! Oh wait... that's just my house...

Once you finally make this huge decision the time for the hard work really begins. It's an amazing powerful journey with little bumps all along the way. I'm so glad you are here and have chosen to share your journey with us!

So is your surgery already scheduled? Have you been to your seminar?

I've already had it, if your talking to me? or John?

I had it on 12/29/06. I'm in week 3 and a-struggling away... with wanting to eat, eat, eat... I'm beginning to think maybe it's out of bordom since I'm on medical leave? I have no idea. I did foolishly think I wouldn't feel hungry but my mind is playing tricks on me the healthier I feel physically. Lovely, huh?!! I think this is my biggest problem right now.

I ALWAYS want to eat and over eat when I am bored. It's awful. If I lived closer I'd make ya unbored! For me the hunger I felt post op was emotional hunger. Just knowing that "wow it's noon I should be having lunch.... where's my big mac?" LOL It will pass eventually. Congrats on making it to the Losing Side...

Welcome to the Forum!!

Glad you found us, we are all struggling in our own ways with various aspects of GBS.

Identifying head hunger at your stage is HUGE!! If you KNOW it's emotional/head hunger then you are already a step ahead!! Welcome to the time in your life when you have the opportunity to RE-TRAIN your head on proper eating habits and coping skills for the 'dul-drum' snack attacks. When the snackker monster hits...try drinking! Most often we confuse hunger for thirst. If drinking doesn't cure it...try doing something else...get active, play with your son, go shopping, ride a bike, read a book....whatever...just remove yourself from the kitchen area/food area. Sure, all easier said than done. Which is why this forum is here...so welcome again!!

YES! I have emotional/head hunger!! AND I KNOW THIS ALREADY! It's crazy!!!

The funny thing in my psych eval and counseling before surgery, the doc's always told me I was really great at find my issues and telling them what was wrong! AND it's happening again... I can almost self-diagnose my problems and it be re-confirmed with docs or forum friends. It seems so strange....

I've got to overcome this head-hunger!!!

One question though, when your physically hungry, how do you know with your new pouch? Does your stomache growl like mine use to or do you get a hunger headache. I use to be able to tell, now I can't???

Default New Too

Hi Gina,

I, too, am new to the forum. I spent the weekend reading and it felt like an oasis in the desert.

One suggestion I have for newbies that worked for me. I had a few questions about specifics such as: drinking coffee, constipation, stricture, ect. I went to the search link above and typed in the word and found so much advice from previous posts. Didn't have to wait for an answer to a post. Immediately sent my husband to the store for Milk of Magnesium!

Looking forward to getting to know you and others on this forum.
