New to site, and 10 Days Post-Op
Hi everyone,
My name is Chasity and I am new to this site. I have never blogged before, so I am new to it all. I was searching for somewhere to find first hand info and ended up here. I had my opperation (Laproscopically) on the 4th. I think I did pretty good, I just have so many questions! I want a glass of milk, can I have one? My surgeon was so vague, I dont really know what to do or not do. I am on full liquids until Wednesday, when I go on soft foods. I seem to be able to tolorate anything so far. I haven't gotten sick from food yet. He has told me to try to keep under 10 grams of sugar per serving and I should be fine. I have actually cheated and been making fruit smoothies with protine, and I have done great with those. I am losing weight as expected, I guess. I have lost around 15-20 lbs in 10 days. I am not gonna complain! I still dont feel hungry at all, but I am craving real food. Any help or advice for the road ahead would be appreciated.

When I was ten days out, I could have milk. Just be careful with what your body tells you when you drink it and I would not drink too much at first because you could have developed lactose intolerance like alot of us have done and it causes severe abdominal pain. So, take it easy at first.

Hi Chastity - welcome to the forum!! I tried milk when I was able to do sift foods and found that I developed lactose intolerance - I dumped and then had the squirts the next day (sorry TMI). I had 1% at the time, and didn't feel like trying skim for the fear of dumping again, so i tried Lactaid and have neverl ooked back. Good stuff - looks and tasts like milk only lactose free Even my friends kids can't tell the difference

Hi Christy,Welcome to the forum.
sounds like you are doing great!
As far as milk goes, I would be careful. How was milk tolerated before surgery?
I read that the whole milk is actually better, for lactose intolerance since the fat helps balance the sugar in the lactose. I do better with whole milk, although lactaid is good also.
Keep posting we will try to help you through the tough first phase.
The cravings will subside as you become preoccupird with your new figure and all the great clothes you can wear!!
Much luck!

I never have had a problem with dairy products. I have some soy milk here, but havent tried it yet. I ate about 1/2 TBS of mashed potatoes about an hour ago and did fine. I felt really full afterwords. It is crazy how that amount fills you up. Will that change? About 20 mins after the taters, I had a bad tummy pain, it was gas, then it went away. It was my first "tummy" pain.

Check that soy milk before you try it - I had one sip of my DH's soy milk (he is dairy free) and dumped like crazy. Thank goodness I only had a little. Of course I looked afterwards and it has like, 17 grams of sugar per serving. Not that my one sip was even close - so just be careful.
Same thing with milk - I have milk in my decaf, but I can't drink it separately.
The other thing is, of course, that I always think it is best to keep liquids as close to calorie free as possible - it is so easy to add tons of calories with drinks and not really feel it.
I know you're craving real food, you'll have it soon enough. After about two weeks of trying to get my pouch used to food, I hated food again, and wished I could live on the liquid diet again! Now at almost four months, things have evened out - I know what I can eat and what I can't.
You're doing great! Keep posting - we're here for you!
