Default Living a dream...I hope

Hello Everyone! hope you are all having a great day. I am a newbie from Wisconsin here. I have had ny pysch evaluation and my initial appt with the dietician. I have my first appointment with the surgeon on Sept 5th. I am very excited to continue the process. It is like living a dream. I can't imagine what it will be like. Reading everything you are all so gracious to share has really been insightful and much appreciated. I have a somewhat good support system. My only problem now is my mother and aunts. They are convinced if I go thru with this, I will die, leaving my children motherless. My mom thinks this is a quick fix and that I will not succeed. Some my support system consists of my husband and my close friends...and hopefully of course, all of you. So far I know that my surgeon I have selected has done over 600 procedures and has only had to go back in to open 2 of them due to complications. I hope that is good. I am going to be 34 on Aug.31st and my heaviest weight is also my current weight...255. I am 5'6" and my personal goal is to get to 145. I have not been that weight since Jr. High. I look forward to building relationships with all of you and sharing my ups and downs with you. Hae a great day!

Hi Sara!
Welcome. Perhaps if you took your Mom to a seminar put on by your Dr, or by another doc who performs the procedure, she might be able to get her questions and concerns answered. You have to do what's right for you. Easy for me to say, everybody in my life has been very supportive.

Welcome!

Whatever you need, we have it here! Info out the wazzo, support, and everything in between! We are glad to have you.

Don't worry over much about your Mom. I would just start compiling information and let her make an INFORMED decision. Most people freak when they hear the dreaded GBP word....the Media has done it's best to portray the horrifying aspects and the success stories are only for Celebes. Not true today, though the dangers are real, the odds of you dying on the table with this are about the same as dying with gall bladder surgery. Like others have said, take her with you to meetings and informational seminars. My Mom was against it too, until she spoke with some friends who had people they loved going through it and doing well. Information is key my dear. It true what they say about "the more you know!!"

Best wishes in your journey, and again...welcome!

Thank you.

and thank you all for your encouraging words. I would defintiely not ever take my momwith me to any meetings. I asked her at first if she wanted to and she said yes..."I'd love to come and tell them what I think about what they are dong to people and and horrible it is." So i think takingher with me is out of the question. Anyway...I realized I will be 34 tomorrow, I don't need her permission or ok to do a darn thing. I need to do what is right for myself and my own family.
