Hey guys, I've been scouting this forum out for several days, and you can't imagine how helpful it's been.

I am a flight attendant (a heavy one) here in Houston, and it's getting harder and harder to do my job. Needless to say, we have long days on our feet, and mine are about to kill me most of the time. It's a very "vain" related industry, and I'm tired of feeling badly about myself. I feel like the passengers look at me and think "wow, I didn't know they had fat flight attendants". Which is why I've decided to have the gastric bypass.

I just went for my initial consultation with the surgeon last week. This week I'm having all the tests done (stress test/EKG, blood work, ultrasound of my gallbladder, meet with a nutitionist and a psychologist- whew!)

I'm so excited that I found this site, because I really feel alone in this process. I'm very hesitant to talk to people about it until I get the approval from my insurance company. My husband was DEAD against this at first, but after much conversation and tears, he has come to realize that this is what I really want to do. He's worried, which is normal. After approval, I will have alot of explaining and reassuring to do with my friends and family. My 21 year old son (who is away at college), will not admit it, but he's a total worrier. I'm very torn how and when I should discuss this with him. (Advice would be appreciated).

My stats are:
Height: 5'7
Weight: 260
Size: 18-20
BMI: 41

Welcome! It is ok to be scared. I know I was a little scared. However, when I looked at where I was headed health wise, the fear left. I had more to be scared about by not having the surgery. I do not regret for one minute having the surgery or the new body and life that I have.

Default Welcome!

Hi and welcome!

As you can see from my signature I'm in the beginning stages of my journey too (you're actually further along than me) and like you came here for research, so I wanted to welcome you and let you know how happy we are that you joined us!

My husband is still not 100% on board with my having the surgery, but I've decided that it's the best thing for my health and I'm hoping that he'll eventually see that too.

Check out the search function up top. I found that I could find most of my answers in previous posts.

Good luck in your journey!

Hi there and welcome to the forum,

My husband was not too thrilled about me having surgery because he wasn't educated with it and he thought in his eyes that I wasn't overweight. He loved me the way I was and didn't see the fat. He just couldn't lift me when he tried. I took him to the pre-op meetings and education and seminars and then he was ok with everything.

Today, he looks back at pictures and videos and says WOW!! "I never saw you like that"

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck in your journey and glad to see you here with all of these wonderful peeps. I know that my sanity and success is due to the great support that I was lucky enough to receive here.

Hi, WELCOME!
If hubby is still feeling a little hesitant, take him to an informational seminar. I think most of us had to go to them, and for my hubby, he felt a lot better after attending one...he got his questions answered, and is totally for the process now. You'll find fab info here, and both hubby and son will be so proud of you! I wish you luck in the process, we're here if you need us!

Welcome aboard. Glad you found us, this is not a process one should feel alone in. There will be a lot of emotions and mixed feelings during your journey that is so normal. That is why it is great to come here and vent and understand those feelings. I don't know your son but I would say tell him when you are mentally ready to do so. Remember this is mainly about you. If you are not mentally ready how do you get someone else mentally prepared for your transformation. My prayers are with you. I am rooting things work out in your favor.

Thanks for all the welcomes! I had my visit with the nutritionist today. It was very informative. I'm getting so ready to get this surgery behind me and get this weight off! I think by the end of the week, I'll have all the doctor's appointments/tests over with. Then my surgeon's office will send everything to the insurance company. Wish me luck!!
