What to do!!
Hi. My name is LeeAnne. I just got off the phone with my doctors office. I made an appointment with my family doctor to talk to him about the possibilities of gastric bypass. I am hoping to learn as much as I can about this so I can make an informed decision on having this surgery. I am at least 100 pounds overweight (I refuse to get on the scale-call it denial) and have sleep apnea. There is a strong family history of heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure, and I am pretty sure I am next. I have been overweight most of my life, and have tried many diets. Some worked..most didnt, but in the end I always ended up gaining it all plus. Now I think I have broken a record for my weight and I need to do something. I need help!! I hope I can find some here.
LeeAnne
P.S... any fellow Canadians, Ontarians, Niagarans here??

You are in the right forum. Everyone here is wonderful. I'm just beginning the process myself, so can't offer any words of wisdom. I go this week for my surgeon, nutrition, and psych eval. The decision to do the surgery is a personal one, but I do feel strongly that this is what I need to do for my health. My husband and daughter were very apprehensive, but they attended the seminar with me and it helped them understand and eased some fears. The thing that really hit home is that out of 11 people who are 100+ pounds overweight....only 1 one them will live to be 65!! For me, it comes down to quality of life. I am 44 years old, and want to live another 44 years or so! I want to be active and energetic! I am healthy now, the only comorbidity I have is high cholesterol, but I know if I don't do the sugery soon, I'll be developing other problems. I see little signs of back pain here and there, I don't have a lot of energy, have no motivation to exercise...in general, I feel okay, but I know it could be SOOOOOOO much better with 110 pounds off!!!!
Welcome to the forum. Keep reading, there's lots of information here!

Welcome LeeAnne
Welcome to the forum LeeAnne. Everyone here is very nice and patient answering all the wannabe losers questions!
I'm just starting my journey too and we sound very similar. I have about 100 pounds to lose to be "normal" and have sleep apnea, but unlike you I've already developed my co-morbidities: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre-diabetes from PCOS, GERD, knee & foot pain, pressure incontinence and the afformentioned sleep apnea. For me, the decision isn't if, but when. I'm going to a weight control clinic appt on 9/15 where I hope they will tell me my previous weight loss attempts and supervised diets will count towards their requirements.
Good luck in your journey! Oh and LisaBoston is from Canada, but I think she's on a cruise right now. Her entire story is on here if you'd like to read about her success.
