Smile In Need of a Support system

Hello, everyone! I am new to this forum, and so glad to meet you all! I'm an RN in Tyler, Texas--scheduled for RNY on 8/29/06. I'm nervous, excited, and anxiously waiting to start my new adventure. The hospital I work for has excellent benefits, but refuses to pay for gastric bypass, regardless of medical necessity, so I am borrowing the money to have it done. I have finally convinced myself that I am worth the price of a small car--took me a long while to get to that point. I'll be having an open procedure, and will be coming home alone after surgery, which has me feeling apprehensive. I hope to make friends here, so as to have some support before and after surgery.
Are you willing?

Arrow Thanks

Thank you so much for the welcome, Trina! I noticed that you are already below 300, and so quickly too! What a wonderful feeling that must be! Tell me, have you noticed an improvement in joint pain yet? I have a lot of trouble with my knees and back, and keep wondering how long it will take before I can tell the difference, when there is not so much weight putting pressure on them.

Default Welcome!

Hi Teresia, Welcome to the forum. I'm at the very beginning of my journey so I don't have a lot of sage advice, but know that we're all here pulling for you! When Trina says we talk about whatever...she means it! You're likely to find the answer to almost any question here if you want to.

Welcome aboard!

You would not believe the difference in me from 9 weeks ago! I never have leg aches or arm aches anymore. My knees never hurt anymore. I can stand with both feet on the floor now without my back feeling like someone is beating me. I can breath after walking to my bathroom now. I can walk outside for exercise or on my treadmill and get a really good workout without feeling like I'm gasping for air and feeling as if my head is going to pop off. Before, it was a struggle just to walk to my mailbox, which is only a few yards from my front door. I used to hurt in my hips, back, knees, and shoulders on a daily basis and I only have pain in my back now, but I still have a broken bone in my back and need a fusion (so that is another story). I used to swell in my legs, feet, and ankles to the point I looked like I had elephant legs from sitting at the computer and trying to do my job every day. I have not had any swelling since my surgery. It's an amazing feeling! My whole life has changed in just this short time from having WLS. I think you will be pretty darn amazed at the difference it will make for you in such a short time also.

Default No more aches!!

Trina, that is so incredibly amazing and encouraging! I can't wait to have some relief from shortness of breath and body aches! The prospects are really getting me excited at this point! Surgery day can't get here soon enough.

Default Thanks, Rene!

Rene, thanks for the encouragement! Looks like you and I will be starting "the incredible journey" soon. I'm a little over 2 weeks from surgery day, and the waiting is killing me!

Teresia,
Of COURSE you are welcome! I'll add you to our list of August All-Stars~
The waiting is difficult, but before you know it you'll be on the losing side and wondering why you had to wait so long!

Teresia, welcome to the forum! We are glad to have you join us. You will find an excellent support system here and like others have said, don't be shy. We talk about everything here!

I too am an RN and I have to tell you that it has become so much easier to get through a shift. I used to go home limping because my knees hurt so bad but now the pain is gone! I still am stiff when I first get up if I've been sitting charting for awhile but I can deal with a little stiffness. You will be amazed how much better you feel as the weight comes off.

Good for you...I thought the same thing about comparing surgery to buying a car. If I wasn't covered, we would've bought another car (my surgery)

I like your avatar name...any correlation to Lady Diana? Just curious. I love Lady Diana. I remember staying up late to watch her Royal wedding live.

Enough of my jibber-jabbering...welcome to the forum.
