You got it!
Wow! That really stinks the hospital won't help pay for surgery.
Thank God my insurance covered most of my surgery.
I just found this place a week or so ago from a friend who comes in here all the time. (Thank you LadyG!) There are lots and lots of fun, kind, caring ppl in here. You can count on me for support.

Repy to Robin:
Thank you for the welcoming words, Robin. Today, I am 7 days away from RNY!! I'll be admitted to the hospital at 5AM on 8/29/06. Never before have I been in such an all-fired hurry to be cut on (lol). Seems odd that I look forward to it like I do, but I count it all joy, and thank God for blessing me with this incredible opportunity. You know, you are not far from your goal now! I want to lose 200 lbs in all. Do you think that might be possible?
Keep up the good work, and I hope to hear from you again sometime!

Thanks for the welcome! You're right, it does stink that my insurance won't even consider covering RNY, but I finally decided not to wait any longer, because who knows when they will start paying, if ever?
When did you have your surgery? And how are things going for you now?

Teresia,
Welcome to the friendliest place on earth for GBS peeps. I see by your stats that we are very similar. I, too, am 47 and our starting weights were very close. If there is any question I can answer please feel free to email me at pambragg59@cox.net and I will get back to you asap. I am off for the rest of this week on disability but will try and check email at least once during the day when I go back to work. If there is one thing I can't stress enough is being an open GBS patient myself is to WEAR YOUR BINDER RELIGIOUSLY FOR AT LEAST THE FIRST MONTH. I know this sounds excessive or parnoid but I honestly believe that had I worn mine I would not have gone thru the hell of one hernia repair (about a doz small & 1 large along incision line) surgery at one year out and would not have had the surprise of another large hernia when they did my tummy tuck a month ago. Wear you binder honey, especially if you have it done open. Now I will go back and read all the other advice have been given! I just had to get that out there right away. Best wishes and happy thoughts coming your way. Pam

Before long, you'll be showing anyone who's interested your little lap scars! I wear mine like a badge of honor!

Reply to Pam:
Thank you so much for the good advice!! I am having an open RNY, so will make sure to wear the binder as religiously as you have advised. Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. The past week has been absolutely insane, trying to get doctor's orders in for the next 6 weeks, while I will be out of work! I worked till 8PM every night last week, and finally got caught up at work. This weekend, I have shopped, cleaned house, done laundry, and today had to start bowel preps in preparation for surgery. Tomorrow is clear liquids only, packing for the hospital, then Fleets enema and Lovenox in the PM. And Tues 8/29, I will rise at 3AM, arrive at the hospital at 5AM, and have RNY at 7AM!!
My life will forever be changed, and I am so immensely grateful! For every time I wake up to pain, I'm going to press that pain pump button and say to myself, "count it all joy!"
To all on this forum who have responded to my questions and given sage advice and kind support, my thanks, and I will be back here after I come home from the hospital in about a week's time.

Reply to Lynda:
I'll be having open RNY, so my trophy scar will be a bit longer, but I'm sure I will still show it off! You know, the most interesting thing to me on this site is how we all use the word "normal." I talk about wanting to shop in "normal people" stores for clothes, and all those who have reached an acceptable BMI say, "eureka, I'm NORMAL!" How sad that society has treated us like freaks because our addiction was apparent externally. To all those who have been treated badly because of your weight, and to myself as well, I humbly apologize and pray that you will find joy in finally being treated like the valuable people you are.
