Thank you so much for the warm welcome! Everyone here has been so kind. Makes me feel a lot better about having the surgery with no visible support system in place, because I will have all of you to turn to when I need to talk or ask questions. It's nice to have another RN here as well. The hospital I work for has surgeons who perform RNY, and they advocate and advertise the surgery, but will not pay for their own employees to have it. Strange, huh? Well, it's just the way it is, and I've decided not to let that stand in my way anymore. Congrats on your incredible weight loss, and I wish you continued success! We'll be "losers" together soon!

Yes, the name LadyNeverSayDi came from a combination of my love for Lady Di, and my inability to give up on anything. I have a hard time admitting defeat, I guess. I'm so glad to hear you got up early to watch Lady Di's wedding! I did too, and my husband thought I was nuts at the time! He died years ago, but I still remember his amusement that particular morning.
As for being "worth the price of a small car", I forget who said that to me, but it really got me thinking. I paid off my car not long ago, so for the next 5 years, my RNY will be my "new car." Let's hope my OLD car will last that long! I am so fortunate to be able to do this. God is good, yes?

Welcome to the forum. You will find this the most amazing support group. Being a nurse will help you tremendously in the process. (I am an MD) It hurts a little bit as you also have seen the downside of the medical process. I wish you the best of luck. The more I post, the stronger my commitment. When I feel I may go off track, I post away. Everyone has such great and varied experiences that you will always find new ideas.

Welcome to our little forum family!!!! Feel free to post and read to your little hearts content. I hope that you get some hands on support after surgery...I also had open and couldn't have done it without the support. If I was near you, know that I would help

Dyann, thanks so much for the welcome and encouragement! Today I'm off work to go to my pre-op appt with the surgeon and my preadmission for surg appt. Which means this is really going to happen!! Surgery is scheduled for 8/29, only 12 days away now. I'm struggling to lose the 15 lbs they asked me to lose prior to surg. I do okay during the day, but evenings and weekends are really hard. I'll get to weigh today and find out how much I've lost. I'm amazed that you have lost over 100 lbs in only 7 months! Congratulations and keep up the good work!!

Thank you so much for the kind words--just saying you would be there for me if you could means so much. I'm very nervous about coming home alone after surgery, but I'm determined to do the best I can. I have a friend who says she can check in on me occasionally, so I feel somewhat better about things. All of you have been so kind and helpful. I am so grateful for your comforting presence.

Thanks for the kind welcome! You've all been so kind, and I am thankful to have you in my life. Guess what!!? I went for my pre-op appt with the surgeon today, and I lost the 15 lbs he asked me to lose before surgery! I keep thinking, "this is really going to happen!!!" RNY just seemed like a distant dream for so long, but it's more real today. I am SO excited!
I'm SO proud for you that you have almost reached your goal--what a wonderful thing. Keep up the good work--you'll be there soon!

Very cool......and yes it REALLY does happen and will for you. I remember feeling so anxious all along that something would keep me from this gift (even dreams that I broke a leg and such). But it didn't. You will have some rough spots, but there isn't a day that I don't stop for a bit and feel gratitude. I am "normal" now. Thanks so much for the encouragement. I am so wanting to reach goal by my anniversary, but if I don't it's ok. I can't wait to hear and see as you journey through this.
