Wink Hi there!

Hi! I have been reading the posts here and have learned so much already! I am 44 years old, I work full time answering phones and scheduling appointments for a group of GI doctors. (guts and butts doctors!) I know quite a bit about the surgery already, and for a long time I've tried many other methods, but I am getting no where fast and have decided the surgery is what I need to do. My husband thinks it's a mental thing..that if I just diet and exercise I'll be fine. I know that's true, but for some reason am unable to do that for any length of time! I've lost and gained the same weight over and over again. I'm so sick of it! I am in good health, but feel like crap! I do have high cholesterol, and am looking forward to not having to take Lipitor anymore. I also know that if I keep going like this, I'll be developing some serious problems, so would rather have the surgery now while I am in a lower risk group. I am 5'4" and weigh 245 (I was 260 not long ago). I live in Reno, NV and am attending a seminar tomorrow night which will give me all the info about the surgery. I am anxious to get the ball rolling! I already have my referral from my primary care doctor..but with my insurance (St Mary's Health First) I have to go see the nutritionist and psychiatrist 1st. I have an appointment on the 29th for that. Then I see the doctor & schedule a date! With my insurance, if your BMI is over 40 (mine is 41.5) then you automatically qualify for surgery! No 6 month diet, no waiting! Woohoo! So, sometime in October is what I'm hoping for. My daughter is getting married next month, so I want to wait until we get through all that before having the surgery. I am going to get the gastric bypass. I feel that'll work best for me. Tell me, how do you post your weight info in your messages. I see you all have stats on there...I want to add mine. I also need to get a photo on there...I'll try to figure that one out another day! I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Default Welcome!

Hi,

We're almost exact parallels! I'm 42, 5' 3" and somewhere around 238-240 with a BMI of 41. I've received a consult from my PCP to the nutritionist, but that's not until September 15th...aaaggghhh the agony of waiting. Good luck in your journey. Everyone here is really nice and very helpful. This forum is a wonderful resource--you're among friends now.

Red face

Thanks for the info! I am going to edit my signature now! I went to the seminar tonight. I am excited! I will get to see the surgeon in 2 weeks. I think things will move along fast from there. My insurance is pretty good about the WLS. I was 95% sure I was going to do the bypass, but now I am torn! The lapband seems pretty appealing. I'm sure I'll figure it all out eventually! Good luck to you too! Looking forward to sharing stories with you!
