Unhappy I am so frustrated where I am at! Can I cry?

I am so frustrated. Since I've moved to Ohio - I can't land a job. I've had several promising jobs (with one business telling me I had the job) only to find out later that someone else got the position - they had me hanging for a good week until they had the gall to tell me. I almost wrote a strongly worded letter.....

I am not one bit exagerating when I say this, but I've applied to over 300+ jobs and I don't know what I need to do anymore. I applied to everything from A-Z while avoiding the local pizza shop - I refuse to work for less that what I'm worth. (I love pizza but still!)

I was recently told to look into the FBI since I'd qualify - but once I looked in to it - I'd have to lose another 20-30 lbs to even get into the Physical part of the training - I'm still fat - which makes me want to cry. I lost how much weight, and I have a 27" waist and I'M FAT!?

Yes, I have had "cheesy" jobs that lasted for a few days/weeks while in the State, until I told myself - "what are you doing?" You have 4 degrees and here you're doing minimum wage jobs.... Yes, I said 4 degrees! I'm also in that overqualified category for most jobs - but a blessing to those that want someone educated and yet don't want to pay them. I don't like being used.

I've lost all of my weight, I am a clean cut all American gal that has 18 plus years of school and I've had great experience in past jobs and YET, I can't get a job here. Is it because I'm not Ohioian????

I even improved on my "dress" wardrobe and even tweaked my resume - and still....NOTHING!

I need to cry!

Im at this point now of giving up and I can't afford to. I'm almost tempted to say heck (that was a weak word, but I have to keep this clean) to this all, and go back to school - but again....would I find a job with a Masters degree in 3 years??????? My career choice would be either Doctor of Physical Therapy or a Physicans Assistant - do I jump on the wagon for this Fall's courses?.

I am getting close to knocking on a "homeless Shelter" door that I'm getting scared - I don't know what to do. I've lived a clean life - never been picked up for speeding, I don't smoke or drink and yet - what is wrong with me? I don't even swear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am an intelligent being and I make an awesome student but come on - I can't make a living being a student - can I????????

I need advice, I need a shoulder to lean on.............

I don't know what to say -- I hear your pain and am here to talk to???

What fields are your degrees in? Have you tried other fields and/or industries? Posted on Monster? How about temp agencies? Have family or friends willing to back you in a business??

Don't give up - right now looking for a job is your job so keep at it. The right one will come along. Sounds trite but it's always been the case for me.

If you're interested in the FBI, look into that a bit more. Sometimes you can get a weight waiver based on your body fat measurements.

Maybe you can "tweak" your resume for the job that you are trying to get, and not list any degree that is not needed for that job. All though you should be proud of you have done, sometimes it's a downfall. I was also thinking maybe a temp agency can help. It would at least get your foot in the door. Good luck I hope things get better for you soon!

Hi...sorry about your frustrations..but there really arent many jobs well big time ones in Ohio...unless you live in the columbus area Ive heard its plenty there. I live in the dayton area and its almost like a boomstown there are a few big companies and thats it...I would have to say to try monsterjobs and too look up major corporations here in Ohio and then go to their websites and apply. Im a military spouse and have to find a new job every time we move so I know how it feels and I dont have my degree yet so you can imagine what i go through. Good luck!

I agree with Jeanie that you might need to tweak your resume. You may look so overqualified that employers might feel threatened. Working with a recruiter or doing temp work might also be a good idea. They are usually paid by the employers, not the employee. Also try your local Craigslist.

My son graduated from college in May with a BS in chemistry. Do you think he could find a job? NOT. And he does have some lab experience. He's talking the pizza route too. His loans will be coming due in 3 months! When he went to school everyone told him it was a good field, he could make a lot of money, etc. etc. But not in this town and he's not quite ready to move away just yet.

If you haven't done this already, another idea is to go to your local library. Most libraries have subscriptions to online databases (like Infousa). There you can do searches of companies in your area. Some companies advertise jobs, others do not. Call and find out who is the right contact person for the type of job you're looking for. Or check out their websites. Best of luck to you.

I agree with what others have said; tweak your resume.

I recently came across a site that allows you to upload your resume and receive feedback about it from others (supposedly from career consultants and experienced professionals...).

The site is called Razume.

This is their faq page.

I don't know anything more about the site and I'm not affiliated with them in any way - just passing on the info in the hopes it might help you.

Good luck, Teresa.

How are things in PA?

It's got to that point that I'm returning back to the college life since jobs are crappy right now, or people are being laid off from jobs they've had forever.

What else is there to do, but go back and get an education?

We're looking at totally relocating to get better jobs. I do have a good job now, but one can always upgrade, but again, we're going to have to move to do it. Are you stuck where you are?? can you imagine commuting some huge distance??
