Stuck I guess you can say - too poor to even relocate! Times are tough here. Yeah I could travel 1.5 hrs. one way to find a job - that's a long time to be on the road though, and with these gas prices (finally dipping) is it worth it?

I'm stuck and becoming desperate.

Guess that depends upon how much $$ you'd make. Just add in the price of the gas and do some math. If the job is good enough, you may be able to commute for 6 months or so and then move. You know, anything is possible if you know what the MOST important requirement is for you. For example, if it cost you, I donno - $25.00 round trip in gas, but you made $25 bucks an hour, you'd be speding one hour of every day paying for the job. The other 7 hours would be your money (Well, minus uncle sam etc.) so if $ is most important, that is a lot more than going to school. If the commute would make you crazy and your happiness is most important, than that is your answer. You know - if the economy sucks, you have to make sacrifices that usuallyinvolve doing something you don't want to get something you do want.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, just trying to help you think outside the box here. If you want to work, there is a way, you'll just have to give up something else.

Someone mentioned pizza delivery..... Don't laugh at that job. My son makes three times more than most kids his age in this area make delivering for Dominos. He gets mininum wage, a certain fee for each run, plus his tips, which by the way equals twice what his hourly wages are. So, 1/3 of his pay is minimum wage, plus the other 2/3 is his tips and fees for runs. So, he is making more than most grown men in this area with families! Now that gas prices are low, low, low....he is making money off the run fees too now. I was very upset with him when he first graduated high school because he insisted he was going to work there with his other friend who was already making this kind of money. I told him it was a joke to work there. Well, looks like the joke is on me because the kid makes more than I do in a week. So, if I were you, I'd go for it a week or two and see how it goes if there is nothing else. You might be surprised. I was VERY HAPPILY surprised with my son. He is starting is career in law enforcement when he turns 19 though. He will be going to college for forensic science after he gets his academy training behind him. He already has a job promised at the local prison as a guard. They will pay to send him through the academy if he works there and he can start there at age 19 instead of having to wait until he's 21 to get into local law enforcement or state troopers. He has a plan and I'm very proud of him for what he is accomplishing in his plan so far. Hey, he has a newer car than I do and mine is not so bad! lol Anyway, I hope you are finding hope in some job. I know it's very tough. Keep us updated and keep your chin up!

Greetings Teresa,

I know it's not very comforting and it may sound like it's easy for me to say this-but don't take it personally that you are having problems find a job. The job market just about every where I know of is AWFUL!!!

I have a BS and am now making less at my current job than I did 10 years ago. The only reason anyone stays on where I currently work (myself included) is the job market is non-existent.

It's scary here in Minnesota...what with a lot of companies either closing or relocating to India/China...and a HUGE influx of immigrants...the job market here is really ugly. It's depressing to talk to a cashier at Walmart and find out they got laid off from a well paying management position and now they're grateful to even have a part time job at Walmart just to try to support their families.

I have no sympathy at all for companies that outsourced all their jobs to India or China and now don't seem to under stand why no one is buying their products... Hello Dell computers, you send all your jobs overseas--how did you think anyone here was going to be able to buy your computers??
