I own three companies, and I interview people all the time, and its amazing how stupid people are, I am a "defensive" interviewer, I try to find the weakness' in people, their ability to handle the negative issues tell ME a lot about a persons personality. Im usually the last person interviewees see before a decision is made, and I have to suffer the consequences of hiring a "lug".

I wouldn't be ashamed to talk about the weight loss as a positive, this shows real control, I wouldn't bring it up as a conversation, but if asked for any positive's this would be a great one to mention, and it is a very impressive issue in my eyes.

The clothes...well they tell the whole story, yep, its the first impression that is gonna turn an interviewer on to your future. The hand shake is the second, I one hired a woman because of her hand shake!! She later asked me what turn me on to her (from a job stand point!!), and when I told her the hand shake, she crapped, she was amazed because her dad told her the night before that the hand shake was important!!

Most of all, confidence, practice your interview with family members.

I supervise a department that historically has a high turnover rate--and young people do not want to work alternating weekends or holidays--sorry folks you applied at a hospital--24/7 job. In the past 6 weeks I hired 4 people--2 are gone and were, unfortunately, bad choices--but they both hid important info from both me and HR. On the other hand the other 2 were GREAT choices. Interviewed 2 people today and the first one was her own worst enemy--she needs to hone her interview skills. I hired the other one--she just moved her from California and hopefully will be a great employee.

Sometimes I just let them ramble--you find out plenty about them! I also find that if they shift their eyes when you ask things like--absentism or tardiness--take heed. I agree a handshake is an important part of any interview--my father taught me that as a young girl and always look people in the eye.
