I absolutely LOATHE health insurance!!!
My health insurance with Anthem was terminated Oct.31 but I didn't find out until the first week of November. I was on a continuation of coverage policy under my moms work and it had expired without us having any knowledge of it. Now we're working with a broker to get me covered again. Anthem and Humana both declined covering me due to my WLS. Humana said they won't EVER cover me b/c of the surgery, and Anthem won't think about it until I hit my 3 year mark post-op. Now I'm in the process of applying for Kentucky Access which is insurance for high risk people. It's gonna fun at LEAST $550 a month... Ridiculous!!! I'm so frustrated I could hit someone. Especially since insurance didn't even cover my surgery. UGH!!!!!!
Anyone else had any issues like this?

I think (you should chcek into it) that they should have offered you Cobra thru your Mom's insurance. It might be a cheaper route. Sorry you are having so many problems.

Well that does suck! I initially had high hopes for the insurance changes Obama wanted to effect, where people could not be penalized for having pre-existing conditions. Instead we will get a watered down version that will help only a very small % of the population. I hope you can find some reasonable coverage.

Get a job with a group plan?? Half kidding, half serious...if your employer offers a group plan, they can't deny you coverage for a pre-existing condition.

My job offers NOTHING. I was offered another job, one with benefits, but it could be 3-9 months until the position opens up... Until then I have to figure out something else.

She's right, group health (HMO) can not exclude you. WalMart and McDonalds both have insurance, even for part-time employees.
I just started my new job today (THANK GOD) and the insurance is 450.00 per payday - YEP 900.00 per month. Crazy!! But I can not be without it.
Employee insurance is your best bet.

I feel you on the job front. I don't mean to say it's easy (especially these days) to just walk out and get an awesome job with great benefits. I hope it works out for you.
I don't think people always consider the value of the umbrella benefits they get with a job. I work with people who are not even contributing to their 401Ks and are therefore missing out on the employer match (free money!). They say they can't afford it; I say you can't afford not to. If you think insurance is expensive now, just wait until you're 70 and retired and there's no more Medicare...

Unfortunately I work in the industry, and this is half true? They can't deny you coverage, but they can place a year of non covered services for anything WLS related for pre existing, unless you can provide proof of coverage with another insurance. I wish I could help in another way. I can answer some "insurance related" questions if you need.
