Default BCBS Approval?

Those of you with BCBS, how long did it take for you to get approved?

Depends on what BCBS you have. I have MN and have to do a 6 month diet with the NUT. So it will take me longer than some who don't have to wait.

Good luck. Waiting is so hard!

Okay... Mine requires a 3 month diet. I hope it doesn't take too long once they receive the documentation! My doctor is going to submit what she has and is going to see if that will work. Otherwise, I am going to have to do the 3 months diet again.

I'm not sure if this is true in every state, but employers can refuse to cover certain procedures on their policy. Thank goodness I have insurance coverage through my husband's company because the company I work for will not pay for it.

Yes, that is one advantage that I have. My family owns the college that I work for so I won't have an issues with my employer!

I have BC/BS of MI....No 6 month diet for me but I believe it depends on your BMI. I called myself and asked what was covered as soon as I made the decision to have surgery. It was still about 5 months before my day of surgery just because of the preop stuff and education day and etc. But I paid very little out of pocket so in the end it was a win win for me Hell I wouldve eaten more then the deductible I paid in the last 7 months LOL
Good Luck!!

That is soooo encouraging! My stuff hasn't been submitted yet. So far BCBS is being super cool about it! The lady I talked to today was a sweetheart and told me that my PCP can submit the diet documentation now or she could wait. That was up to her. What did you do for your 3 month?

I got my approval this evening on the way home! It took about 5 weeks, but 2 of those weeks was because the staff in my surgeons' office was a little slow informing me what other documents BCBS of Ala. needed. But I'm so happy right now. My surgeon does not even know...but they will in the morning.
